Future Investment Forecast for Autonomous Mobility: AI, EVs, and Smart Infrastructure Driving the Next Mobility Revolution
Abstract
Autonomous mobility is emerging as a major transformation in transportation, supported by advances in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), sensing technologies, connectivity, electric vehicles (EVs), edge computing, and high-level vehicle automation. The convergence of these technologies is creating investment opportunities across vehicle manufacturing, semiconductor development, software engineering, telecommunications, smart infrastructure, cybersecurity, logistics, and mobility services. The autonomous mobility ecosystem is expanding beyond vehicle automation toward integrated transportation systems involving intelligent roads, connected infrastructure, cloud platforms, autonomous logistics, robotaxis, and Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS). DataIntelo's current autonomous mobility ecosystem assessment places the global ecosystem value at USD 67.3 billion in 2025, with a projected value of USD 310.9 billion by 2034, representing a reported CAGR of 18.5%. This market value is used in this study as contextual evidence of ecosystem expansion and is distinguished from the investment index developed by the author. This study evaluates future investment opportunities in autonomous mobility between 2025 and 2035 using a qualitative and analytical framework incorporating technology readiness, infrastructure development, regulatory support, consumer adoption, and investment risk. Academic literature, government publications, transportation reports, electric mobility studies, technology assessments, and industry research were considered to identify major investment drivers and barriers. An author-developed normalized Autonomous Mobility Investment Growth Index is introduced, with 2025 assigned a baseline value of 100. The index reaches 135 in 2027, 210 in 2030, 285 in 2033, and 350 in 2035. The 2035 value therefore represents a 250% increase over the 2025 baseline and a 3.5-fold index level, rather than USD 350 billion of investment. The study identifies AI and software, autonomous vehicle systems, smart infrastructure, semiconductor technologies, connectivity, cybersecurity, autonomous logistics, robotaxis, and MaaS as major future investment areas. The findings indicate a progressive transition from research and pilot programs toward commercial deployment and integrated autonomous transportation ecosystems.
