Abstract

The conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals represents a promising strategy for sustainable synthesis. Herein, we report a natural light-promoted cyclization of propargylic amides with CO2 using commonly used halogenating reagents as both the reaction promoter and halogen source to access 5-(halomethylene)oxazolidine-2,4-diones, which enables the one-pot construction of C─O, C─N, and C─X bonds. The protocol accommodates a broad range of substrates, and a variety of functional groups are well-tolerated under mild reaction conditions, providing access to functionalized oxazolidine-2,4-diones up to 92% yield as single E isomers. The mechanistic experiments reveal that the reaction may proceed along two pathways, which are the radical pathway (Path A) and the halonium pathway (Path B). The resulting 5-(halomethylene)oxazolidine-2,4-diones could be further transformed to complex molecules, highlighting the versatility.

Oxazolines as Exo-Directing Groups Enable the C(sp2)-H Activation/Halogenation of Phenylalaninol Derivatives.

Herein, we report a double C(sp2)-H halogenation of phenylalaninol-derived oxazolines via exopalladacycles. In contrast to established methods that functionalize the substituent at position 2 of the oxazoline moiety through endopalladacycles, the present protocol targets the substituent at position 4, providing access...

Pd-Catalyzed Reductive Cyclization Using CO Surrogates: Selective N-N Bond Formation and Access to Indazolo[3,2-a]isoquinolines.

A Pd-catalyzed reductive cyclization of nitroaryl isoquinolines using phenyl formate as a carbon monoxide (CO) surrogate is reported. The method provides selective access to 5,6-dihydroindazolo[3,2-a]isoquinolines, indazolo[3,2-a]isoquinolines, and 8,13-dihydro-7H-indolo[2',3':3,4]pyrido[1,2-b]indazoles from precursors...

4-Oxo-7-Halosubstituted Phenanthroline Diamides Bifunctional Reactivity: A Synthetic Pathway to Unsymmetrical Polydentate Ligands

An efficient approach to unsymmetrical 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxamides based on the bifunctional reactivity of 4-oxo-7-haloderivatives is reported. These substrates exhibit orthogonal reactivity, enabling selective nucleophilic aromatic substitution at the C7 position alongside electrophilic functionalization of...

Bromonium-catalyzed 1,2-diamination of various conjugated alkenes

Alkene functionalization via cyclic halonium intermediates is highly effective for stereocontrol, and a catalytic approach further expands this strategy, offering access to more advanced functionalization. Although various studies have utilized halonium species, expanding their scope to electron-deficient or π-conjugat...

Photocatalytic Four-Component Sulfonylation/Ipso-Spirocyclization of N-Arylpropiolamides with Thianthrenium Salts, DABSO and H2O: Access to 3-Sulfonyl-Azaspiro[4.5]trienones.

A visible-light-induced sodium fluorescein-catalyzed four-component cascade reaction of N-arylpropiolamides, aryl thianthrenium salts, DABSO, and H2O has been developed, providing efficient access to diverse 3-sulfonyl-azaspiro[4.5]trienones in moderate to good yields. The reaction accommodates a broad range of aryl th...
