Abstract

This paper presents a D-band transition between a WR-6 air-filled rectangular waveguide and a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) on a two-layer PCB. The transition employs an aperture-coupled patch along with surrounding inductive vias to convert the TE10 mode to the SIW mode. Simulation results show that the single transition achieves a fractional bandwidth of 38% (|S11| < -10 dB) from 112 to 165 GHz. In addition, back to back simulations using HFSS and CST show good agreement, with a fractional bandwidth of 35% from 111 to 161 GHz and an insertion loss below 1.1 dB at 140 GHz. This structure offers wide bandwidth, low cost, and high integrability, making it suitable for D-band millimeter-wave applications.
