TL;DR

With increasing CD score, patients were more likely to report a modified Demeester score >1 at 12 months follow up, and patients were more likely to report a modified Demeester score >1 at 12 months follow up.

Abstract

Benign Disease: Gastro-Esophageal Reflux and Hiatal Hernia Hiatus hernias are relatively common and can be associated with adverse symptoms and serious complications. Operative repair is indicated in this patient group for symptom management and the prevention of morbidity. This study aimed to identify if Clavien–Dindo (CD) complications after a laparoscopic hiatus hernia repair and fundoplication (LHHRaF) were related to poorer 12- and 24-month modified Demeester scores. A retrospective analysis was performed from a prospectively maintained, multicentre database of patients who underwent LHHRaF between 2014 and 2024. Revision procedures were excluded. Operative data, Clavien-Dindo, Hernia size and type, and 12- and 24-month Modified Demeester scores are analysed. 1395 patients underwent LHHRaF between 2014 and 2024. Modified Demeester scores for 12- and 24- months were 451 and 272 respectively. There were CD(1-4) complications in 70 (15%) patients, who had 12-month modified Demeester Scores. The proportion of patients with a modified Demeester score >1 in each group were; no complications 11%, CD1-11%, CD2-13%, CD3-33%, CD4-20%. 24-month data will also be presented along with the effect of hernia size and type. With increasing CD score, patients were more likely to report a modified Demeester score >1 at 12 months follow up.

PD03.06. Operative Repair of Post-Esophagectomy Hiatal Hernias is Associated with Higher Morbidity than Paraesophageal Hernias

Benign Disease: Esophageal Surgery Post-esophagectomy hiatal hernias (PEHHs) are infrequent complications of esophagectomies. Their incidence is likely underestimated and ranges from 1-6%. Outcomes of PEHHs compared to paraesophageal hernias (PEHs) are limited in the literature. This study aimed to compare...

P1.027. Selective Fundoplication Approach in Hiatal Hernia Repair Reduces Reflux Recurrence and Reoperation Rates

Benign Disease: Gastro-Esophageal Reflux and Hiatal Hernia Fundoplication is often performed during hiatus hernia (HH) repair to control reflux, but whether routine fundoplication improves long-term gastrointestinal outcomes remains uncertain. This study assessed the differences in the impact of routine an...

Short-Term outcomes of Concomitant Hiatal Hernia Repair during Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in morbidly obese patients

Obesity is strongly associated with an increased risk of hiatal hernia (HH) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on GERD remains controversial. To evaluate the effect of concomitant hiatal hernia repair (HHR) during LSG on postoperative GERD symptoms...

Comparison of Clavien-Dindo classification (CDC) and comprehensive complication index (CCI) systems for grading of surgical complications in patients with gastroduodenal perforations-a prospective study.

Objective Gastro-duodenal perforation is a life-threatening surgical emergency associated with high morbidity and mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries due to delayed presentation and sepsis. Accurate assessment of postoperative complications is essential for predicting outcomes. While the Clavien...
