The fundamentals of iodine-based and gadolinium-based contrast agents, their pharmacokinetics and safety aspects that should be considered in the context of a risk-benefit assessment for their use in oncological imaging are outlined.
The synthesis, characteristics and advantages of small molecule- and nanoparticle-based contrast agents are discussed, with emphasis on their utility in gastrointestinal imaging, disease diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions, and the limitations and future directions of current contrast agents are evaluated.

Assessment of therapeutic response in oncology is fundamental for evaluating treatment efficacy, guiding clinical decision-making, and determining prognosis. Historically, response evaluation relied primarily on anatomical imaging criteria derived from tumor size changes on computed tomography (CT), most notably the Re...

Magnetic resonance imaging has played an increasingly important role in radiotherapy, both before and during treatment. Before irradiation, its excellent soft-tissue contrast has provided a major advantage over simulation computed tomography by improving the visualization of tumour volumes and organs at risk, and by re...

Introduction Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a crucial imaging modality for the management of rectal cancer. Conventional MRI provides detailed anatomical information but has a limited capacity to evaluate tumor biology. Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) is an advanced functional MRI technique that simultaneously...
