A Complementary Control Approach for Load Voltage Stability in a Wind Turbine Emulator with Self-Excited Induction Generator
Abstract
In this study, a voltage control method for a Wind Turbine Emulator (WTE) is developed under varying Wind Speed (WS) and load demands. The emulator's components are: a Wind Turbine Model (WTM), a DC motor, a Self-Excited Induction Generator (SEIG), and a Variable Load (VL). The proposed control strategy aims to maintain the RMS load voltage equal to 400 V under environmental or operational voltage variations. Two complementary control methods are employed. The first is the Reactive Power Compensation (RPC), which helps determine the ideal capacitance based on wind and load patterns. The other is the Pitch Angle Control (PAC), which changes the blade-pitch angle on the condition that apparent power regulation occurs. The coordinated control strategy leads to a better dynamic response and improved voltage regulation when disturbances occur suddenly. While the emulator operates reliably in many different circumstances. The effectiveness of the developed strategy is evaluated through several operating scenarios. The performance of the system is validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental tests , demonstrating its effectiveness and reliability.
