Abstract

This paper proposes a deployment-oriented monostatic sensing scheme for fifth-generation new radio (5G NR) frequency range 2 (FR2) integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. To address the limited number of baseband digital ports in practical millimeter-wave architectures, a low-complexity monopulse sum-difference mechanism is integrated into a cycle prefix orthogonal frequency division-multiplexing modulation (CP-OFDM) architecture. The proposed scheme combines beam sweeping, range-Doppler processing, and two-dimensional constant false alarm rate (2D-CFAR) detection to achieve target sensing and fine angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation utilizing only four digital ports. Simulation results based on the third generation partnership project (3GPP) TR 38.901 channel model demonstrate robust sub-meter-level positioning performance in the FR2 Urban Micro for aerial vehicles (UMi-AV) scenario.
