Abstract
The steelmaking-continuous casting production scheduling problem is a typical multi-stage, multi-constraint hybrid flow shop problem. For this problem, a two-stage planning method based on benders decomposition is proposed, and the problem is decomposed into two subproblems: batch planning scheduling based on pouring times and time preparation scheduling based on furnace times, and a mathematical linear programming model based on a specific unit event point is established with the objectives of minimizing the total processing time of the casting machine and minimizing the maximum completion time, respectively. For problem solving, a two-stage genetic algorithm based on bender decomposition is designed, combined with the parallel backward preparation method, to realize the scheduling of pouring schedule in the continuous casting stage and the processing schedule of furnace in each process, respectively. Finally, simulation experiments based on actual steel production data show that the proposed two-stage planning method based on bender decomposition can effectively solve this production scheduling problem.
In steelmaking and continuous casting production processes, the operating time delay often occurs, which may lead to casting break or processing conflict so that the initial scheduling plan becomes unrealizable. It is more difficult to reschedule because of the multiple parallel machines in the whole production process...

Modern manufacturing enterprises are increasingly transitioning to multi-variety, small-batch production. This shift introduces significant scheduling challenges, particularly due to the job hierarchy constraints inherent in assembling multi-level intermediate parts. Furthermore, non-machining preparation times—such as...
The garment industry is a labor-intensive, make-to-order sector characterized by complex flow shop production, though many small and medium-sized manufacturers still rely on experience-based rather than optimization-based scheduling. This study applies a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to real production scheduling data from a...
This study aims to minimize the makespan while considering sequence-dependent setup times for both machines and work orders and proposes a genetic algorithm integrating reinforcement learning and variable neighborhood search.

: The hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (HFSP) is a widely used model for energy-efficient multi-stage manufacturing, yet semiconductor studies rarely combine discrete assembly and packaging, batch burn-in processing and speed-adjustable testing within a single four-stage formulation. Most also treat energy consumpti...
