Abstract
Modern systems incorporate an increasing number of components performing complex functions, necessitating the development of adequate mathematical models for their reliability. Particular attention should be paid to mission-critical units, whose failure may lead to the breakdown of the entire system. Such priority units require enhanced reliability to ensure stable system operation and mitigate the consequences of potential failures. The paper deals with the stochastic analysis of a two-unit repairable system model with cold standby, priority in use and non-identical units. We constructed its semi-Markov model with a discrete-continuous phase space, eliminating certain limitations and yielding generalized results by using probability distribution functions of system unit's failure-free operation and repair times in general form. Applying the method of successive approximations, the stationary distribution of the embedded Markov chain was derived, on the basis of which the stationary reliability characteristics were determined. Under the condition of “fast” restoration of system units, approximate formulas for determining reliability characteristics were obtained. The error of the obtained approximate formulas was assessed in comparison with exact results for exponential distributions of system unit's failure-free operation and repair times. Examples are provided.
The problem of approximately determining the reliability characteristics of a redundant cold-reserve system with unlimited recovery in a non-homogeneous case is considered. For the constructed semi-Markov model with a phase space of states of a general form, under the condition of “rapid” recovery of the system’s eleme...

Abstract In this paper, we have conducted the reliability-availability-maintainability (RAM) analysis of a 1-out-of-2: G repairable system using the Markovian approach. The system consists of two non-identical units and remains functional until both units fail. When a unit fails, the entire load of the system shifts to...

Single‑unit repairable systems (e.g., purifiers, elevators) affect operational efficiency and maintenance costs. This paper studies a system with optional repairs and multiple vacations, assuming general repair times and exponential vacation times. The supplementary variable technique yields integro‑differential equati...
This paper presents a comprehensive mathematical framework for analyzing the performance of machining systems incorporating cold standby units, preventive maintenance (PM ), and repair delays. The model captures the real-world complexity of manufacturing environments, where machines may fail unpredictably, repairs are...
Transmission line reliability is essential for secure and continuous power system operation, as outages occur randomly due to aging, environmental stress, and operational conditions. This paper presents a stochastic reliability assessment approach based on Poisson process modeling to represent such random failure and r...

: This study analyzes the reliability and availability of a two-component non-identical repairable system under the Weibull failure distribution with Common Cause Shocks (CCS). Analytical expressions for reliability, MTTF, availability, and failure frequency are derived using a Markov process approach. The results show...
