The Internet’s Path MTUs: How Big Can You Go?

A measurement study of PMTUs using RIPE Atlas to characterize their behavior in general, across protocol layers (IPv4/IPv6 and network locations thus covering 76,700 paths across access networks, the Internet core, and web-serving infrastructure, and shows that sub-1500 B PMTUs are primarily located near network edges,...

Leveraging Hot Standby Routing to Improve Reliability in TSN

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is widely deployed in industrial networks because it can provide deterministic transmission services for Time-Triggered (TT) flows. Link failures pose severe threats to the reliability of TT flows. Frame Replication and Elimination for Reliability (FRER) defined by IEEE 802.1 CB tolerate...

Bounding Mobile Latency from Network Interconnections

A new method is developed to evaluate the latency cost of sending traffic through an exit point on the three largest U.S. MNOs, and shows that geographic optimization saves little latency: the inflation users experience comes from routing and other overhead.

Extending Low Latency Service Across the Internet

This work proposes a deployment strategy that reduces the need to upgrade expensive core routers by using existing networking mechanisms such as BGP communities, SRv6, and priority queues with rate caps, and demonstrates the feasibility of this approach through large scale experiments on the FABRIC testbed.

Dynamic Traffic Engineering in SDN: A Topology-Aware Approach to Network Management, Congestion Avoidance, Latency Optimization, and Failure Resilience

This paper proposes SDN-based traffic engineering approach that combines in one control-plane link utilization monitoring, delay-aware path selection and proactive failure recovery, and proposes a greedy congestion and latency aware routing algorithm and a mechanism of pre-computation of backup paths.

DELAY REDUCTION IN SD-WAN BY USING BUCKET SORT ALGORITHM

A proactive congestion control algorithm based on a bucket-sort approach that groups packets that share the same destination network Internet Protocol (IP) address into a single bucket and transmits them as one packet is proposed.
