Overall, isolongifolene and ICN-K04 showed protective effects against B(a)P-induced lung carcinogenesis under the experimental conditions.

Abstract

Benzo (a) pyrene (B(a)P) is a potent chemical carcinogen associated with lung carcinogenesis and cellular damage. The current research has demonstrated the effects of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), Chitosan Nanoparticles, Isolongifolene and ICN-K04. Animals were divided into Six groups: Control, B(a)P, B(a)P + 5-FU, Chitosan nanoparticles, Isolongifolene and ICN-K04. Body weight, Tumor incidence, Lung weight and Pulmonary ultrastructure were assessed. B(a)P-treated animals showed progressive body weight loss and 100% tumor incidence. Tumor incidence decreased to 37.5%, 75%, 25%, and 0% following 5-FU, chitosan nanoparticles, isolongifolene, and ICN-K04 treatment, respectively. Lung weight was significantly reduced in the 5-FU- and ICN-K04-treated groups. TEM analysis showed lipid accumulation, nuclear abnormalities, and mitochondrial swelling in B (a)P-treated animals. Isolongifolene and ICN-K04 treatment showed comparatively preserved cellular ultrastructure and reduced lipid accumulation. Overall, isolongifolene and ICN-K04 showed protective effects against B(a)P-induced lung carcinogenesis under the experimental conditions

A long term study to unravel the chemopreventive efficacy of pMethoxycinnamic acid in comparison to sorafenib, a standard drug against NDEA induced hepatocarcinogenesis

Results established that supplementation with p-MCA and the reference drug (sorafenib) to NDEA induced rats significantly decreased the incidence of cancer in the liver, besides altering the phase I and phase II xenobiotic enzymes.

Aqueous and flavonoid-rich Carica papaya leaf extracts modulate 7, 12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced breast carcinogenesis in rats: roles of oxidative stress, inflammation, and in silico docking

Carica papaya leaves (CPL), traditionally used in ethnomedicine to manage inflammatory conditions and as an adjuvant in therapies, have been reported to have anticancer potential. This study investigated the chemopreventive and immunomodulatory potentials of aqueous extract (AqCE) and flavonoid-rich extract (F...

Silymarin and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Attenuate Experimental Colon Cancer in Rats Through Crosstalk of miR-192 and β-Catenin Pathways

Colon cancer (CC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally. Although chemotherapy remains the primary treatment, its toxicity and drug resistance highlight the need for alternative therapeutic strategies. Silymarin (Sily), a natural compound, and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) have shown potential an...
