Blockchain Technology in Education and Learning
Abstract
The chapter discusses how blockchain-based verifiable credentialing, federated learning, and immersive metaverse environments converge as a single architectural solution to three structural failures in modern digital education: centralised credential vulnerability, privacy personalisation trade-off, and lack of experiential learning environments in remote environments. The proposed Decentralized Credential Ecosystem (DCE) combines an Ethereum-compatible smart contract layer of immutable credential issuance and on-chain verification, a cross-institutional federated learning layer of privacy-preserving personalised assessment, and a WebXR-based metaverse classroom layer where credentials are represented as verifiable non-fungible token (NFT) badges attached to learner avatars. The chapter features a formal three-layer architecture, component-level specifications, a smart contract credential state machine, a federated learning topology, with differential privacy guarantees, an adversarial threat model and mitigation matrix.
The results indicate that software engineering work practices are chosen opportunistically, adapted and configured to provide value under the constrains imposed by the startup context.

It is found that roles of MVPs in startups were not fully aware by entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs should consider a systematic approach to fully explore the value of MVP, as a multiple facet product (MFP).

It is found that what perceived as biggest challenges by software startups do vary across different life cycle stages, even though its significance decreases when the learning focuses of the startups move from problem to solution and their products mature.
