Abstract

Let $\varphi_{d}(|{\,\cdot\,}|)$ be the radial extremal function in the problem for the sharp Nikolskii constant $\mathcal C_d^{-1}=\inf \|f\|_{1}$ over functions $f\in\mathit{PW}\,_{1}^{1}(\mathbb R^{d})$, $f(0)=1$. For every odd dimension, we construct an entire function $\Phi$ of exponential type $1/2$ such that $\varphi_d(z)=\Phi(z)\Phi(-z)$, and $\Phi$ satisfies a quadratic functional equation and a second-order linear differential equation with polynomial coefficients. Thus, the problem of finding the extremal function is reduced to a spectral problem with finitely many parameters. This result extends a recent one-dimensional result, but uses a different method. For example, in dimension $d=3$ it leads to a seven-diagonal spectral scheme that allows us to compute $\mathcal C_3$ to high accuracy. Even dimensions remain open within this approach.

The Nikolskii Constant in Arbitrary Dimension

We study the radial extremal function $\varphi(|{\,\cdot\,}|)$ arising in the problem of finding the sharp Nikolskii constant $\mathcal C_d$ in $\mathit{PW}_1^1(\mathbb R^d)$ for arbitrary dimension $d\ge1$. We prove a factorization $\varphi=\Phi_1\Phi_2$, where $\Phi_1$ and $\Phi_2$ are entire functions of exponential type $1/2$ satisfying a functional equation and second-order differential equations with polynomial coefficients. As a result, the original extremal problem is reduced to a one-dimensional spectral problem depending on at most $d+1$ parameters. We also obtain a zeta interpretation of the coefficients of the polynomial appearing in the functional equation and a multiplicative equilibrium condition for the zeros of the extremal function. These results can be used to construct several algorithms for computing $\mathcal C_d$.

Nondegeneracy and regularity of polynomial pushforwards

Let $\mu$ be a log-concave probability measure on $\mathbb R^n$ and let $f\colon\mathbb R^n\to\mathbb R^k$ be a polynomial mapping of degree at most $d$. We show that \[ \mu(f\in A) \le C\bigl(\lambda_k(A)\bigr)^{\frac{1}{k(d-1)+1}} \] for every Borel set $A\subset\mathbb R^k$ whenever the image measure $\mu\circ f^{-1}$ is absolutely continuous. The constant $C$ is independent of the dimension $n$, and the exponent $\frac{1}{k(d-1)+1}$ is sharp. This extends the scalar Carbery--Wright inequality and answers, in the log-concave setting, a question raised by Avni, Glazer, and Larsen. In addition, we show that the density of $\mu\circ f^{-1}$, whenever it exists, belongs to the Nikolskii--Besov space $B^{\frac{1}{k(d-1)+1}}_{1,\infty}(\mathbb R^k)$, with a dimension-free bound for the corresponding norm. A central difficulty in passing from scalar polynomials to vector-valued polynomial mappings is the lack of a suitable nondegeneracy parameter quantifying absolute continuity of $\mu\circ f^{-1}$, as the variance does in the scalar case. Natural candidates such as the covariance matrix or the Jacobian matrix either fail to characterize this property or do not lead to dimension-free estimates. We identify such a parameter and define it to be the covariance matrix of the vector formed by the monomials of degree up to $d^{k-1}$ in the normalized components of $f$. The dimension-free nature of our results allows us to extend Kusuoka's absolute continuity criterion for Gaussian polynomial random vectors to the log-concave setting. Moreover, in this setting, we obtain estimates relating convergence in distribution to convergence in total variation for polynomial random vectors.

An Orlicz variational formula for David-type Beltrami equations

Let $\mathcal{U} \Subset \mathbb{C}$ be fixed, $\Phi(s)=e^s-s-1$, $F(\nu)=\frac{\nu}{2+|\nu|}$, and let $f^{F(\nu)}$ denote the principal solution of the corresponding Beltrami equation. The identity $K_{F(\nu)}=1+|\nu|$ identifies compactly supported David coefficients with exponential-Orlicz parameters. We prove that, on the open subset of $L^\Phi_{\mathcal{U}}(\mathbb{C})$ where a sufficiently high finite exponential moment is available, the principal solution map is locally real $C^{1,1}$ with values in $W^{1,2}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{C})$. The derivative in a direction $\eta \in L^\Phi_{\mathcal{U}}(\mathbb{C})$ is the principally normalized solution of $\bar{\partial} V - F(\nu) \partial_z V = DF_\nu(\eta) \partial_z f^{F(\nu)}$. The proof uses a pullback by the base principal solution. The key estimate is the pointwise cancellation $\frac{\|DF_\nu\|_{\mathrm{op}}}{1-|F(\nu)|^2} \le \frac{1}{2}$, which converts the linearized equation into a $\bar{\partial}$-equation whose source is controlled directly by the $L^\Phi$-norm of the direction. Combined with the principal degenerate $L^2$-resolvent and the optimal Jacobian regularity for exponentially integrable distortion, this yields a uniform quadratic remainder estimate. At the origin one obtains $D \mathrm{Sol}_0[\eta]=(1/2)\mathcal{C}\eta$ in $W^{1,2}_{\mathrm{loc}}$.

A Criterion for Equidistribution along the $\Omega$ Function over Polynomial Sequences with Applications

Let $P (Y_1, ..., Y_d)$ be a certain fixed homogeneous polynomial of integral coefficients. In this paper, we establish a quantitative equidistribution criterion for the ergodic averages along $\Omega (|P (n_1, ..., n_d)|)$. Consequently, by an estimate of Lachand, we prove the following variant of a theorem of Bergelson and Richter: if $P$ is an irreducible binary cubic form and $ (X, T)$ is a uniquely ergodic system with unique invariant measure $\mu$, then for any $x \in X$ and $f \in C(X)$, \begin{equation*} \lim_{N \rightarrow \infty} \frac 1 {N^2} {\mathop{\sum\sum}_{n_1, n_2 \leqslant N}} f \big( T^{ \Omega (|P (n_1, n_2)| ) } x \big) = \int_{X} f \ \mathrm{d} \mu . \end{equation*} Moreover, we prove in the appendix a related conjecture of C\'espedes and Donoso over number fields.

Geometric Properties of Higher Dimensional Solenoidal Attractors

We study the skew product systems $T: \mathbb{S}^1\times\mathbb{R}^d \to \mathbb{S}^1 \times\mathbb{R}^d$, \begin{equation*} T(x,y)=(\ell x, A y+\phi(x)), \end{equation*} where $\ell\geq 2,$ $A \in GL_d(\mathbb{R})$ with $\rho(A)<1$, and $\phi \in C^r(\mathbb{S}^1, \mathbb{R}^d)$. We allow the fibers to have any dimension and $A$ to be non-conformal. We show that: when $|\det(A)|\ell<1$, for almost every $\phi$, the Hausdorff dimension of the solenoid attractor and the SRB measure equals the affinity dimension; when $|\det(A)|\ell>1$, for almost every $\phi$, the SRB measure is absolutely continuous. We introduce a derivative dispersion condition, replacing the usual transversality condition.

Exact Asymptotics of the Multidimensional Nikolskii Constant

We prove the exact asymptotics of the multidimensional normalized $L^1$ Nikolskii constant \[ \mathcal L^*(d)=\Bigl(\frac{\pi}{2}+o(1)\Bigr)2^{-d}, \quad d\to\infty. \] In addition, for each fixed dimension we obtain asymptotics for the positive zeros of the extremal function $\varphi_d$, and determine their limiting distribution as $d\to\infty$. The lower bound follows from the construction of an admissible function and its asymptotic analysis. For the upper bound, we represent $x^{d+1}\varphi_d(x)$ as the product of two solutions of the equation $u''+V_d(x)u=0$, compare this equation with a Bessel model, and analyze relative canonical products.
