Abstract

To address the security and energy efficiency challenges in low-altitude economy (LAE) wireless communications, we develop a secure synergistic network integrating unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), with an emphasis on maximizing secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) for downlink transmission scenarios. In particular, firstly, we establish the channel transmission models for UAV-IRS assisted LAE communications network. Then, we formulate a non-convex fractional optimization problem for SEE maximization, involving three tightly coupled variables, i.e., the beamforming, IRS phase and UAV trajectory. To tackle the fractional structure and variable coupling, Dinkelbach's method and equivalent transformations are leveraged to reformulate the objective function, which is then decoupled and decomposed into three independent subproblems via an alternating optimization strategy for iterative resolution. Slack variables and Semidefinite Relaxation (SDR) are further employed to convexify the subproblems of beamforming and IRS phase shift optimization, thereby obtaining their optimal solutions. For the UAV trajectory optimization subproblem, we propose a D3QN-PER algorithm, which integrates a Dueling Double Deep Q-Network with Prioritized Experience Replay, to tackle the slow convergence and training instability inherent in conventional Deep Q-Network (DQN). Numerical simulations validate the performance for our proposed joint optimization scheme. Comparative results demonstrate that the developed D3QN-PER-based algorithm outperforms existing state-of-the-art learning approaches which verifies its superiority in improving SEE for UAV-IRS-assisted LAE wireless communications network.

Secrecy Rate Maximization for UAV-Mounted Six-Dimensional Movable IRS-Assisted ISAC Systems

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a key enabling technology for 6G wireless networks, but its broadcast nature raises a physical-layer security concern when the sensing target can act as a potential eavesdropper. Although intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) can enhance wireless propagation and improve secrecy, existing secure IRS-assisted ISAC designs are mostly limited to fixed deployments and passive phase control, which offer limited spatial adaptability in line-of-sight-dominated low-altitude scenarios. To address this limitation, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted six-dimensional movable IRS-assisted secure ISAC system, where the IRS location, orientation, and reflection coefficients are jointly optimized with the BS beamformer to maximize the secrecy rate under communication quality-of-service (QoS), power, unit-modulus, and visibility constraints. The resulting problem is highly non-convex due to the coupled active/passive beamforming variables and the location-and-orientation-dependent (pose-dependent) channel responses. To solve it efficiently, we develop a three-block alternating optimization (AO) framework, in which the active beamformer, IRS pose, and passive reflection vector are updated via linearized ADMM, warm-started particle swarm optimization, and Riemannian gradient descent, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed design significantly outperforms fixed-location and orientation-only baselines, highlighting the importance of joint translation, rotation, and phase control for secure ISAC.

Robust Secure Precoding for Wireless Information and Power Transfer in RSMA-Based LEO Satellite Communications

Satellite-terrestrial integrated networks with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) provide wide-area connectivity and sustainable service support, but they also face serious security challenges due to the broadcast nature of satellite links and the possibility that an energy receiver may act as potential eavesdropper. To address this issue, this paper proposes a secure precoding design for a high-altitude platform (HAP)-assisted rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) architecture under a quasi-static transmission model. Specifically, a cooperative direct and relay transmission (CDRT) framework is developed, in which the HAP assists the satellite transmission to improve the physical layer security for multi-user SWIPT services. By assuming the energy receiver near the target user as potential eavesdropper, we formulate a sum secrecy rate maximization problem subject to energy harvesting and transmit power constraints. To transform the original nonconvex optimization problem into a tractable convex problem, we employ techniques such as first-order Taylor expansion approximation, rank-one constraint relaxation, successive convex approximation, and semidefinite relaxation. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed CDRT-RSMA scheme significantly outperforms conventional non-orthogonal and time-division multiple access schemes in terms of security performance.

Energy-Aware Scheduling and Beamforming for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer in Low-Earth-Orbit Satellite and UAV Networks Using Lyapunov Optimization, Successive Convex Approximation, and WMMSE

The integration of low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) promises high-throughput and flexible wireless connectivity, yet it faces critical challenges in simultaneously guaranteeing data rates and long-term energy harvesting under mobility and imperfect channel state information (CSI). Additionally, the rate–energy trade-off imposed by simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) further complicates per-slot resource allocation. In this paper, we propose a Lyapunov-based scheduling framework that stabilizes UAV data and virtual energy queues while maximizing weighted throughput. The framework employs a custom inner solver combining successive convex approximation (SCA) and weighted minimum mean-square error (WMMSE) optimization to efficiently compute per-slot beamformers and power-splitting ratios. Our approach explicitly accounts for UAV mobility, Rician fading channels with Doppler, and circuit nonlinearities in energy harvesting, ensuring feasible and energy-aware SWIPT operation. A LEO satellite–UAV integrated communication system is considered, where multiple satellites provide wireless connectivity to energy-constrained UAVs operating in a dynamic three-dimensional environment. The satellites employ multi-antenna transmission, while the UAVs rely on energy harvesting mechanisms to sustain their operation. The communication links are characterized by dominant line-of-sight propagation conditions, and UAV trajectories are adaptively optimized to improve network performance and energy efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed Lyapunov-based SCA-WMMSE framework significantly outperforms a fixed baseline approach, providing substantial improvements in signal quality, achievable data rates, and harvested energy. Moreover, the proposed method maintains stable energy management behavior and guarantees long-term energy sustainability for the UAVs.

Energy Efficient Multi-User Beamforming and 3D Position Optimization for SIM-Assisted UAVs

This paper studies energy-efficient downlink multi-user transmissions with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication systems equipped with stacked intelligent metasurfaces (SIM), enabling wave-domain analog beamforming through multiple cascaded metasurface layers, while low-dimensional digital precoding is carried out using a limited number of transmit radio-frequency chains. This architecture enables flexible electromagnetic wave manipulation with reduced hardware complexity, making it particularly suitable for energy-constrained aerial platforms. We formulate a hardware-aware energy-efficiency (EE) maximization problem aiming to jointly optimize the digital precoder, the phase shifts of all SIM layers, and the three-dimensional UAV position under transmit-power, SIM operation, and UAV deployment constraints. The resulting problem is highly non-convex due to the fractional objective, the cascaded SIM structure and the unit-modulus phase constraints of the constituent metasurface layers, as well as the non-linear UAV-dependent channel. To address these challenges, we develop a transform-based alternating optimization framework that combines Dinkelbach's method, dual and quadratic transforms, to enable closed-form digital beamforming, Riemannian manifold optimization for SIM phase shifts, and successive convex approximation (SCA) for UAV positioning. Convergence and complexity analyses are provided to characterize the proposed algorithm. The presented numerical results showcase that the proposed joint design significantly improves EE compared with fully digital and maximum ratio transmission benchmark schemes, while revealing important design trade-offs among transmit power, SIM size, and the number of its constituent stacked layers.
