Abstract

Let $\Phi$ be the classical Jacobi-theta kernel in the Fourier representation of the Riemann $\Xi$-function, set $s(t)=\Phi(\sqrt t)$, and define the first Laguerre expression $f(t)=s'(t)^2-s(t)s''(t)$. Csordas and Dimitrov (2000) conjectured that $\log f$ is strictly concave on $(0,\infty)$; Csordas (2015) later restated the assertion as Open Problem~4.14. We prove the conjecture by two complementary methods, sharing only a local certificate near the modular fixed point. The first proof is a direct theta-series argument: a directed-rounding Taylor certificate near $t=0$ is joined to a dominant-first-summand estimate with rigorous theta-tail bounds. The second proof uses Jacobi's nonlinear third-order differential equation for $\theta_3$ to obtain a three-dimensional autonomous phase space, a sharp elliptic monotonicity theorem, and an exact quartic reduction of the target inequality. The quartic boundary is a polynomial shear of the quadratic cone $XY=Z^2$. A directed interval certificate proves that every possible cone contact on the only remaining compact interval points strictly into the desired region; beyond that interval a pointwise monotonicity theorem closes the argument. The finite certificates and exact symbolic checks are supplied as reproducible scripts. The result implies the associated double Tur\'an inequalities through the theorem of Csordas--Dimitrov, but no assertion of the Riemann Hypothesis is made.

Global $L^p$ Second Commutation Lemma

We prove the second commutation lemma for the Lebesgue spaces $L^p({\bf R}^d)$, $1<p<\infty$, on the whole unbounded domain, extending the $L^2$ theory of Tartar (1990) to the Banach-space framework of H-distributions. Unlike the $L^2$ setting, where the Plancherel isometry and Hilbert-space compactness are available, the global $L^p$ setting has neither. We control the non-local tail through Calder\'on--Zygmund kernel estimates, an explicit Taylor-remainder identity, and spatial truncation, obtaining order-$(-\epsilon)$ smoothing of the remainder into the Besov scale. Pairing weakly convergent sequences with their canonical Nemyckij duals, we then use the lemma to derive $L^p$ transport equations. For first-order scalar equations we establish the phase-space bicharacteristic (Vlasov) flow of the associated H-distribution when $p \ge 2$; for the quasilinear $p$-wave system we lift the local energy identity to the microlocal level, obtaining a Poynting-flux transport of microlocal energy in the linear core $p = 2$ and isolating the structural obstruction to its closure when $p \neq 2$. These results provide functional-analytic tools for tracking the propagation of singularities in degenerate nonlinear and non-local partial differential equations.

On the sharpness of Denjoy's theorem

Let $\omega$ be a concave modulus of continuity that is weaker than Lipschitz, meaning $\omega(t)/t$ diverges as $t$ approaches $0$. We construct a diffeomorphism of the circle with irrational rotation number, in the regularity class $C^{1+\omega}$, with a wandering interval. This construction implies that Denjoy's 1932 theorem is sharp in regularity, unless additional restrictions are imposed on the rotation number. The construction in the special case $\omega(t) = t\log(1/t)$ settles an open problem dating back to Herman's 1979 work on circle diffeomorphisms, which gave constructions for $\omega(t) = t\log(1/t)^{1+\varepsilon}$ for every $\varepsilon>0$. Our examples arise as limits of periodic circle diffeomorphisms with rapidly converging rotation numbers.

Strong asymptotics for Jacobi-Pi\~neiro orthogonal polynomials

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of Jacobi-Pi\~neiro polynomials of degree $2n$ orthogonal on $[0,1]$ with respect to weights $w_j(x) = x^{\alpha_j}(1-x)^{\beta}$, $j=1,2$ where $\alpha_1,\alpha_2, \beta>-1$, and $\alpha_1-\alpha_2 \notin \mathbb{Z}$. These polynomials are characterized by a Riemann-Hilbert problem for a $3 \times 3$ matrix-valued function. We use the Deift-Zhou steepest descent method for Riemann-Hilbert problems to obtain strong uniform asymptotics in the complex plane. The local parametrix around the origin is constructed using Meijer G-functions. We match the local parametrix around the origin with the global parametrix with a double matching, a technique that was recently introduced.

On variants of P\'olya's conjecture

In this paper, we study a Riesz-type weighted sum of the Liouville function, $f(x):=-\sum_{n\le x}\frac{\lambda(n)\log n}{\sqrt n}\log\frac{x}{n}$ for sufficiently large $x$. Motivated by a recent research on the sign criteria for the Riemann Hypothesis arising from weighted prime-counting functions, we investigate the sign behavior of $f(x)$ and its relation to the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. We first prove that if $f(x)$ is non-negative for all sufficiently large $x$, then the Riemann Hypothesis holds. The proof is based on the Mellin transform of $f$ and the analytic properties of $\frac{\zeta(2s)}{\zeta(s)}$. Conversely, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, the Simple Zero Conjecture, and an absolute convergence condition involving the nontrivial zeta zeros, we derive an explicit formula for $f(x)$ in terms of these zeros. In particular, we show that $f(x)\sim \frac{(\log x)^3}{12|\zeta(\frac{1}{2})|}$ as $x\to \infty$. Consequently, we show that under these hypotheses, $f(x)$ is eventually positive.

A proof of the Arnold-Givental conjecture

We prove the Arnold-Givental conjecture in full generality: given a closed symplectic manifold $(X, \omega)$, an anti-symplectic involution $\tau_X: X \to X$ with fixed point set $L={\rm Fix}(\tau_X)$, and a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism $\phi: X \to X$ such that $\phi(L)$ intersects transversely with $L$, the following inequality holds: \[ \# \big( \phi(L) \cap L \big) \geq {\mathrm dim}_{{\mathbb F}_2} H_*(L; {\mathbb F}_2).\] The proof combines the methods of integral Floer theory of the first and fourth authors, a reduction to Hamiltonian Floer cohomology due to Lu, and a new idea related to localization in a $\mathbb Z/2$-equivariant Floer theory tailored to the problem.

Appell Polynomials in Shifted Asymptotic Expansions: the Mills ratio, Hermite polynomials, and Stieltjes bounds

A theorem of Buri\'c, Elezovi\'c and Vuk\v si\'c states that translating the argument in an asymptotic expansion, $f(x)\sim\sum(-1)^na_nx^{-n-1}$, to $f(x+t)$, replaces the constant coefficients $a_n$ by the Appell polynomials $R_n(t)$ generated by $(a_n)$. Their motivating examples came from the gamma and polygamma functions, where Bernoulli polynomials occur. We extend this construction beyond that setting and identify the Borel--Laplace representation $L_A(x)=\int_0^\infty e^{-xs}A(-s)\,\dd s$, whenever the integral exists. For the Gaussian kernel $A(-s)=e^{-s^2/2}$, this representation gives the \emph{Mills--Hermite} expansion $M(x+t)\sim\sum(-1)^n\He_n(t)x^{-n-1}$, extending the classical scalar expansion. We establish an explicit remainder estimate and derive finite-difference formulas that remain in the Hermite polynomial algebra. As an application, we obtain a large-threshold expansion of the non-central Gaussian tail with explicit polynomial dependence on the mean. If $A(-s)$ is itself the Laplace transform of a positive measure, then the coefficients form a Stieltjes moment sequence. The associated Pad\'e convergents give a systematic hierarchy of two-sided bounds in which successive lower and upper approximants incorporate the moments one at a time.
