Asymmetric nonannulative intermolecular carboamination via C-H activation represents a powerful strategy for converting inexpensive alkene feedstocks into value-added products. A comprehensive study was conducted on the reaction mechanism and origin of selectivity with acrylate and N-phenoxyacetamide as substrates, which affords valuable unnatural tyrosine analogues with high regio- and enantioselectivity. By integrating detailed computational studies with available experimental evidence, we demonstrate that the observed selectivity is governed by reduced activation strain energy in conjunction with extensive noncovalent interactions. In particular, favorable dispersion and electrostatic interactions selectively stabilize the transition state leading to the S-configured stereocenter. Notably, the key spin-crossover event within the cobalt catalytic manifold is crucial for rendering the reaction feasible. The origin of the underperformance of the analogous rhodium catalyst is also examined using various analysis techniques. Furthermore, computational predictions for new alkene partners, namely styrene and vinyltrimethylsilane, indicate excellent enantiomeric excess, highlighting the broader synthetic potential of this catalytic system.
Rigid, electronically tunable carbene-based pincer ligands constitute a highly promising platform for controlling selectivity in cobalt-catalyzed alkyne semihydrogenation, but the influence of catalyst spin-state characteristics on Z/E selectivity and over-reduction remains poorly understood. Herein, we compare the m...

Transition-metal-catalyzed nitrene transfer reactions offer a powerful strategy for direct C─H bond amination; however, the nature of the key reactive intermediates, particularly with Cp*Co(III) systems, remains elusive. Herein, we report a cobalt-catalyzed allylic C─H amidation of unactivated alkenes using dioxazolone...
The development of stereoselective olefin metathesis remains a key challenge in modern catalysis, particularly in achieving simultaneous control over the enantioselectivity and Z-selectivity. In this study, a new class of camphor-derived chiral NHC ruthenium complexes was designed, synthesized, and evaluated in asymm...

Rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric [4+3] annulation of benzosilacyclobutenes with 7-oxabenzonorbornadienes provides an efficient route to enantioenriched seven-membered sila-heterocycles. In this study, density functional theory calculations were performed to elucidate the reaction mechanism and the origins of the enantiosel...

Photochemistry offers a powerful platform for enabling unique bond cleavage and formation. However, achieving precise stereochemical control while suppressing persistent racemic background reactions remains a fundamental challenge in this field. Herein, we report a highly enantio- and diastereoselective [2 + 2] photocy...
