Abstract

We present an exact analytical solution of a generic two-mode quantum Rabi model with non-identical bosonic modes. By means of a Bogoliubov transformation, the Hamiltonian is reduced to invariant subspaces labeled by a conserved quantity, and a transcendental G-function is derived, whose zeros determine the regular energy spectrum. We show that the spectra in different subspaces are related by a simple energy shift, revealing the crucial role of mode asymmetry in shaping the spectral structure. In the symmetric limit, the model exhibits an enhanced degeneracy, including fourfold degenerate energy levels arising from the merging of invariant subspaces. The structure of exceptional solutions is analyzed in detail. We identify finite-dimensional Juddian solutions associated with level crossings, as well as special nondegenerate solutions that give rise to isolated states. The degeneracy of these solutions is shown to be controlled by the underlying symmetry of the model. Furthermore, we investigate spectral collapse in the generic two-mode quantum Rabi model. Unlike in the two-photon quantum Rabi model, the collapse energy depends explicitly on the subspace, leading to a richer collapse scenario. We demonstrate that spectral collapse originates from the vanishing spacing between adjacent poles of the G-function, and that the collapse point supports an infinite sequence of bound states. These states exhibit exponential accumulation toward the collapse energy, revealing a hierarchical structure of collapse-induced bound states.

Two-photon quantum Rabi models - Spectral degeneracy and symmetries

The quantum Rabi model occupies a distinguished role in the study of quantum light and matter, describing the most fundamental interactions. Elucidation of its spectral properties, along with those of its generalizations, is necessary for quantum optics and applications in areas such as quantum information technologies. In this paper, we explore a precise description of energy degeneracy of the two-photon asymmetric quantum Rabi model and the nature of the system's symmetries; as a result, we demonstrate that these have significant relationships with the structure of certain algebraic curves (hyperelliptic curves) and number theory. Concretely, we first prove the existence of degenerate eigenvalues using the monodromy data of the Fuchsian ODE, which draws the eigenvalue problem of the system, and the existence of associated symmetry operators, previously discovered and studied heuristically in physics. Subsequently, we give a complete characterization of spectral degeneracies and present a series of conjectures showing that the degeneracy may determine the entire energy spectral structure. More precisely, for sufficiently strong interaction, we obtain an excellent approximation of the energy curves by the zero locus of a two-variable polynomial associated to degenerate eigenstates. In addition, we postulate an explicit description of the relation between the missing symmetry at the Hamiltonian level (hidden symmetry) and the degeneracy of the two-photon quantum Rabi model.

Universality of Energy-Space Entanglement in Quantum Impurity Models

Entanglement entropy (EE) is commonly studied using real-space bipartitions. We show that, in quantum impurity models, an energy-space bipartition, equivalent to the momentum-space bipartition of the bath, can display universal behavior. Motivated by poor man's scaling, we logarithmically discretize the bath and partition it into high- and low-energy sectors. For models with Fermi-liquid fixed points, including the Anderson model and fully screened or underscreened Kondo models, the low-energy EE flows to constants independent of model parameters. These constants are integer multiples of $\ln 2$ plus corrections that depend only on the logarithmic discretization parameter $\Lambda$. We show that scale invariance of the fixed-point wavefunction in energy space maps to effective translation invariance along a one-dimensional chain, allowing the fixed points to be classified by one-dimensional topological band theory. With low-energy chiral symmetry, each $\ln 2$ contribution originates from a topological edge mode. We also study transitions between distinct Fermi-liquid fixed points using the local-singlet--Kondo-singlet transition in a two-orbital Anderson model driven by an inter-orbital antiferromagnetic coupling. The local-singlet phase has an effectively decoupled impurity and nearly vanishing EE, whereas the Kondo-singlet phase has finite EE larger than $\ln 2$ per spin and orbital. When chiral symmetry holds at low energies, this distinction corresponds to a topological transition of the effective bath chain. At the non-Fermi-liquid critical point, the EE develops an unstable plateau. Its $\Lambda$ dependence resembles that of the overscreened two-channel Kondo model, supporting universality within the same non-Fermi-liquid universality class.

Exact analytical spectrum, eigenstates, and quantum geometry of the quarter-flux Harper-Hofstadter model

Quantum geometry has emerged as a guiding principle across atomic and condensed-matter physics, shaping the topological responses of Bloch bands and the stability of the correlated phases they host. Beyond two-band models, however, closed-form expressions for both the spectrum and the quantum geometry are rare. Here we provide such expressions for a paradigmatic four-band model that has recently been realized experimentally with ultracold atoms, photons and in superconducting circuits: the Harper-Hofstadter model at quarter flux, describing charged particles on a two-dimensional square lattice subjected to a uniform magnetic field. We achieve this by first showing that the model possesses a sublattice symmetry, which renders its Bloch Hamiltonian anti-block-diagonal allowing us to derive the spectrum and the eigenstates analytically. From that we also obtain closed-form expressions for the full quantum geometric tensor (QGT), including both the Berry curvature and the quantum metric, for all the bands of the model. For this purpose we first derive a general expression for the QGT for sublattice-symmetric systems in terms of contributions from the individual sublattice sectors. Finally, we evaluate fractional-Chern-insulator stability criteria analytically and quantify the lowest band of the quarter-flux Harper-Hofstadter model to be a nearly ideal Chern band.

Unconventional Thermalization of a Three-Wave-Mixing Model

Understanding the boundaries between quantum thermalization and localization in many-body systems remains a central frontier of condensed matter and quantum information science. In this work, we investigate the dynamics and spectral properties of a generic model with long-range three-body-interaction, namely, a system with non-local three-wave-mixing. This model has been realized recently with a microwave Fabry-Perot cavity terminated on one end by a superconducting qubit mirror. Utilizing exact diagonalization techniques, we uncover a striking paradox: the global energy level spacing statistics show integrability, even though all dynamic observables and inverse participation ratios of the eigenstates indicate ergodicity and delocalization. We show that this behavior is a hallmark of strong Hilbert space fragmentation driven by kinematic constraints rather than an explicit global symmetry. Inside these sectors, dynamics scramble rapidly, as evidenced by the out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC), while global transport is heavily bottlenecked, resulting in a logarithmic relaxation to equilibrium. This picture is further confirmed by fluctuations in eigenstate entanglement entropy at the same energy. Finally, we demonstrate that the late time OTOC average scales with system size, providing a distinct experimentally accessible signature of the underlying three-body kinetic bottlenecks.

Quantum Rabi oscillations of a qubit strongly coupled to a one-dimensional waveguide

We theoretically investigate quantum Rabi oscillations in a system consisting of a two-level atom (qubit) strongly coupled to a one-dimensional open waveguide. In contrast to conventional cavity quantum electrodynamics, the qubit interacts with a continuum of propagating modes, which gives rise to fundamentally different dynamical behavior. Within the rotating-wave approximation, we express the multimode Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian in terms of collective bosonic operators and show that the system possesses two integrals of motion, enabling an exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian in the single-excitation subspace. We show that for a strongly interacting qubit-photon system, the dynamics are captured by a reduced two-level model. In this framework, each level is defined as the product of the atomic excited state and a specific field mode, which takes the form of a multiphoton Fock-like state. In this picture, the Rabi oscillations represent a collective phenomenon corresponding to oscillations between multiphoton states differing by a single photon. We then extend our analysis to multiphoton processes in which the initial field is a coherent state with a continuous spectrum. In this case, the Rabi frequency is shown to be sensitive to the spectral profile of the function that generates the coherent state.

Topological charges and parity selection at Floquet quasienergy degeneracies

The quasienergy spectrum of a strongly driven two-level system as a function of the driving parameters exhibits conical intersections, which are enabled by hidden time-nonlocal symmetries. We show that each such crossing carries a quantized topological charge: the Floquet--Berry phase acquired along an adiabatic loop around a cone is equal to a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-valued charge. We further identify a second family of degeneracies that occurs at vanishing driving amplitude, when the level splitting matches $m$ energy quanta of the field. Along the Stark-shifted resonance line, the minimum quasienergy gap opens as $|A|^m$, and the charge is nontrivial only for odd $m$. We analytically derive both results from a perturbative reduction to a spin-$1/2$ in an effective two-dimensional magnetic field and confirm them numerically through the Bargmann invariant. Moreover, we propose a chirality-based protocol that cancels the dynamical phase to isolate the geometric one, and an ancilla-based Ramsey readout that renders the topological charge directly observable.
