Abstract

We address the prescribed Lorentzian mean curvature problem over a convex bounded domain $\Omega$ of $\mathbb R^m$ with bounded right-hand side and homogeneous capillary boundary condition. We prove that the problem has a unique $W^{2,2}$-regular weak solution $u$ with zero mean and that $|Du| \leq 1 - \theta$ for some $\theta\in(0,1)$ only depending on the data. Such $u$ is also the unique maximizer of an associated functional. A key step in proving that the maximizer is a weak solution consists in showing that it has no light segments, i.e. segments along which $|Du| = 1$. This holds for arbitrary bounded capillary boundary data and can thus be an interesting result on its own.

Well-posedness for the mean curvature flow on the half-space and on bounded domains

We study graphical mean curvature flow in arbitrary codimension over the half-space and over smooth bounded domains, subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. At the scaling-critical Lipschitz regularity, we prove local well-posedness for initial graphs that can be approximated in $W^{1,\infty}$ by smooth profiles compatible with the boundary condition. Within this class, if the initial Lipschitz seminorm is sufficiently small, the corresponding solution is global; on a bounded domain, it also converges exponentially to the flat graph. Positive-time regularization is quantified by time-weighted H\"older estimates whose weighted quantities remain bounded as $t\downarrow0$. The main analytic ingredient is a boundary Schauder theory for variable-coefficient parabolic systems. On the half-space, it combines coefficient freezing with parity extensions and boundary identities intrinsic to the graphical system. On curved domains, localization and boundary flattening lead to anisotropic estimates, from which normal derivatives are recovered recursively.

Strict Convexity for Solution of Liouville-Type Dirichlet Problems

We identify a common convexity structure for three exponential Dirichlet problems on smooth uniformly strictly convex domains: the Liouville equation $\Delta u=e^u$, the real equation $\sigma_2(D^2u)=e^{2u}$, and its complex counterpart $\sigma_2(u_{i\bar j})=e^{2u}$. In each case $u<0$ in the domain and $u=0$ on the boundary. We prove that \[ w=-\operatorname{arcosh}(e^{-u/2}) \] is strictly convex in the underlying real variables. The argument combines domain deformation, constant-rank theory, inverse-convexity estimates, radial ball models, boundary strict convexity, and local $C^2$ stability.

Free boundary flows by powers of the Gauss curvature in the unit ball

We study smooth compact strictly convex hypersurfaces in the unit ball that meet the support sphere orthogonally and evolve by the $\alpha$-Gauss curvature flow $\partial_tX=-K^\alpha\nu$, $\alpha>0$. We prove that the solution remains strictly convex, becomes extinct in finite time and contracts to a single point on the support sphere. If $\alpha>\frac{1}{n+2}$, we apply a Cayley-type conformal map that sends the extinction point to the origin of a Euclidean half-space and then normalize the enclosed half-space volume. The resulting normalized hypersurfaces converge smoothly to the unit hemisphere. The proof combines boundary identities for the spherical free boundary, a boundary-adapted Tso estimate, an almost-monotonicity formula for a half-space entropy, and uniform curvature estimates for the normalized flow.

Boundary regularity for Oseen-Frank minimizers with arbitrary positive splay, twist, and bend constants

Let $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^3$ be a smooth bounded domain and let $g:\partial\Omega\to\mathbb S^2$ be smooth. We prove that any global minimizer of the Oseen--Frank energy subject to the strong anchoring condition $n=g$ is smooth in a full neighborhood of $\partial\Omega$. The result holds for arbitrary positive splay, twist, and bend constants, without any small-anisotropy assumption. It resolves the boundary-regularity part of Lin and Liu's Problem~(c) for the pure Oseen--Frank problem and for its prescribed smooth magnetic-field perturbation.

Mean curvatures and symmetry of convex hypersurfaces

Let $M^n$ be a $C^2$ closed convex hypersurface in Euclidean space, and $\sigma_m$ be its $m$th mean curvature. We show that $M$ is symmetric with respect to a hyperplane orthogonal to a given direction $e$, if $\sigma_m(p)\leq\sigma_m(q)$ whenever $p-q$ is parallel to $e$. For convex hypersurfaces, this settles a conjecture of Li, extends the mean-curvature theorem of Li-Yan-Yao to all $\sigma_m$, and strengthens some earlier results of Li-Nirenberg by removing nondegeneracy assumptions. The proof is based on the theory of mixed volumes, specifically the rigidity of quermassintegrals under Steiner symmetrization.

Stable Minimal Hypersurfaces in Positively Curved $4$-Manifolds

Let $M^3\to X^4$ be a complete, connected, two-sided stable minimal immersion. We prove that if the ambient sectional curvature is nonnegative and the ambient scalar curvature has a positive uniform lower bound, then $M$ is totally geodesic and its normal Ricci curvature vanishes. No weak bounded geometry assumption and no upper curvature bound are imposed. We also construct a complete metric of strictly positive sectional curvature on $\mathbb{R}^4$ admitting a complete, embedded, one-ended, nonparabolic, two-sided stable minimal hypersurface diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^3$ which is not totally geodesic. The rigidity proof combines spectral splitting theory, a warped $\mu$-bubble construction, and a harmonic function level set argument. The example is obtained by a compactly supported deformation of an example in \cite{CLS}.
