Addressing global warming requires integrated mitigation and adaptation supported by renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, conservation, technological innovation, effective governance, public participation, international cooperation; and interdisciplinary research.

Abstract

Background Greenhouse gases (GHGs) naturally regulate the Earth’s climate; however, increasing human-caused emissions intensify the greenhouse effect, resulting in global warming and climate change. The major anthropogenic GHGs include carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), and fluorinated gases. Objective This study examined the environmental and health consequences of rising GHG concentrations and evaluated sustainable, technological, and policy-based mitigation strategies to address this issue. Methods A structured narrative review and analytical approach were employed using peer-reviewed literature, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports, international environmental agreements, government publications; and authoritative health and environmental reports. Evidence was thematically analyzed across climate, ecosystems, resources, agriculture, health, mitigation; and adaptation. Results Increased GHG levels contribute to rising temperatures, altered precipitation, glacier loss, sea-level rise, biodiversity decline, water scarcity, and agricultural challenges. The associated health risks include heat-related illnesses, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, and food insecurity. Conclusion Addressing global warming requires integrated mitigation and adaptation supported by renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, conservation, technological innovation, effective governance, public participation, international cooperation; and interdisciplinary research.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Climate Change Impacts on Row Crop Production: Current Evidence, Challenges, and Adaptation Strategies

Climate change is increasingly affecting row-crop production systems, which are also sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This critical narrative review examines the interactions among GHG emissions, climate change, and row-crop production, specifically for maize, wheat, rice and soybean. The review brings togeth...

Measurement, Modelling, and Mitigation of Methane Emissions in Agricultural Systems for Climate-Smart Agriculture

Methane is a high-priority agricultural greenhouse gas because substantial emissions arise from enteric fermentation, anaerobic manure management, and flooded rice cultivation, while its relatively short atmospheric lifetime creates an opportunity for comparatively rapid climate benefits from sustained abatement. Yet m...

Soil Properties as Key Drivers of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Climate Change

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the agricultural sector play a significant role in global warming and climate change. Soils act as both sources and sinks of greenhouse gases (GHGs), including nitrous oxide (N2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). While previous studies have largely examined the contribution o...

Climate Change, Natural Resource Degradation and Human Health in India

India is experiencing measurable, accelerating health impacts from climate change, transmitted principally through the degradation of natural resources such as air, water, forests and land. This review synthesises current epidemiological and environmental-health evidence on these pathways and evaluates the adequacy of...

Energy Transition, Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and Biodiversity: Global Assessment

Climate and biodiversity policies remain compartmentalized, often generating perverse trade‐offs. We assess whether the energy transition can reconcile the mitigation‐conservation tension to deliver measurable biodiversity benefits, and identify the underlying mediating mechanisms. We construct a 2000–2022 global pan...
