Thick-hard roofs (THRs) govern the fracture and movement of overburden strata and control the formation and stability of stope structures. The instability of THRs acts as a core factor influencing ground pressure and serves as a primary trigger of rockbursts. This study aims to reveal the zoned energy release characteristics and dynamic response laws of gob-side roadways under THR instability. An elastoplastic foundation mechanical model was established to characterize the load-bearing behavior of THRs under mining-induced disturbances. The propagation and attenuation laws of stress waves generated by THR fracture were analyzed, and the dynamic disturbance characteristics of gob-side roadways were elucidated. Furthermore, a targeted rockburst mitigation strategy was proposed, which integrates dynamic load source isolation, static stress concentration relief, and cooperative support with constant-resistance, large-deformation, energy-absorbing anchor cables. The research findings can provide a solid theoretical basis for the prevention and control of THR-type rockbursts in deep coal mining.
In situ stress is a primary driver of deformation and failure in surrounding rock masses, posing a critical challenge to the stability of deep roadways in energy extraction (e.g., deep coal mining and geothermal development). To investigate this issue, this study introduces an enhanced numerical approach within the Y-M...

Using the No. 1513 return air roadway at Anyang Coal Mine as an engineering case, this study examines the instability mechanism and support control of three-soft coal-seam roadways. An integrated approach combining theoretical derivation, physical similarity modeling, and FLAC3D simulation was adopted to analyze fractu...

Large deformation is one of the most critical hazards in tunnels excavated under complex geological conditions. It often causes significant economic losses and threatens construction safety. For layered soft rock tunnels subjected to high in situ stress, the deformation and failure mechanisms are largely governed by th...

Continuous roof-cutting gob-side entry-retaining has been increasingly applied in deep coal mines to improve entry stability and reduce rockburst susceptibility. However, the structural response of the overburden and the associated load-transfer mechanisms during continuous extraction of multiple adjacent working faces...

For working faces in soft coal seams closely (especially directly) overlain by hard rock strata, intense dynamic disturbances induced by roof fracturing not only increase the susceptibility of coal and gas outbursts, but also lower the critical gas threshold for disaster initiation. However, existing studies on the out...

Rockbursts occur frequently in deep hard-rock tunnels, posing a major challenge to the safe and efficient construction of underground engineering. Engineering practice shows that in addition to high in-situ stress and hard brittle lithology, widely distributed structural planes in surrounding rock also significantly mo...
