Abstract

Let $n\ge2$ and let $u$ be a smooth 2-convex and semi-convex solution of \[ \frac{\sigma _2(D^2u)}{\sigma _1(D^2u)}=f(x). \] We prove an interior Hessian estimate depending on the Lipschitz norm of $f$. The proof combines the integral approach of Chen--Jian--Zhou with the algebraic reduction of the quotient equation to a $\sigma _2$ structure. The main new point is a shifted algebraic inequality that yields a shifted trace Jacobi inequality in divergence form for $\log(\Delta u+a)$. We work with the linearized operator $G=(\Delta u-f)I-D^2u$ of the equivalent equation $\sigma_2(D^2u)=f \Delta u$. The almost divergence-free identity \(\partial_iG_{ij}=-f_j\) enables us to control the \(\Delta f\) term by integration by parts solely in terms of the Lipschitz norm of \(f\). A Legendre--Lewy transformation converts the resulting degenerate divergence-form equation into a uniformly elliptic one. The estimate then follows from a mean-value inequality together with a weighted energy argument. As an application, in dimension two we obtain interior $C^2$ regularity for convex viscosity solutions with positive Lipschitz right-hand side. Moreover, our counterexamples show that the Lipschitz regularity required of the right-hand side is optimal.

Interior Curvature Estimates of Semi-convex Solutions for the scalar curvature equation with Lipschitz Right-Hand Sides

In this paper, let $u\in C^4(B_{10})$ with $D^2u\geq -KI$ define a $2$-admissible graph $M=\{(x,u(x)):x\in B_{10}\}\subset\R^{n+1}$ satisfying \[ \sigma_2(\kappa[u])=f(x). \] We prove an interior curvature estimate depending on the Lipschitz norm of the right-hand sides. The proof combines a shifted Jacobi inequality for \(b=\log(H+J_0)\), a parallel hypersurface transformation that makes the Newton tensor uniformly elliptic and local boundedness estimate then reduces the pointwise bound to a weighted $L^1$ estimate, which is completed using the Jacobi energy inequality and integration by parts.

Global Curvature Estimates for $\sigma_k$ Curvature Equations with $k\geq n/2$

We establish a new concavity inequality for the elementary symmetric function \(\sigma_k\), which controls the spectral quadratic form arising from the second variation of \(\log\lambda_{\max}\). The proof is based on an easy--hard decomposition of the spectral variables. The easy region is treated using an optimal constrained concavity estimate for \(\sigma_k\), whereas the hard region is analyzed through G{\aa}rding-root coordinates and the concavity of the ordered partial sums of the inverse roots. As an application, for \(n/2\leq k<n\), we obtain global curvature estimates for closed star-shaped \(k\)-convex hypersurfaces satisfying \(\sigma_k(\kappa)=f(X,\nu)\) with a general positive right-hand side, together with the corresponding global-to-boundary estimates for Euclidean Hessian equations.

Doubling Argument of the Hessian Estimate for the Hessian Quotient Equations

In this paper, we establish a doubling argument to obtain Hessian estimates for convex solutions to the Hessian quotient equation $\frac{\sigma_n}{\sigma_k}(D^2u) = f(x,u,Du)$ for $k=n-1$ and $k=n-2$ under the condition that $\log f$ is convex in the $Du$ variable. In particular, our approach is pointwise and does not make use of the Legendre transform or integral-based local maximum principles. We provide a counterexample demonstrating that interior estimates can fail if no structural assumption is imposed on $f$ in the $Du$ variable. Finally, we extend our doubling argument to general Hessian quotient equations $\frac{\sigma_l}{\sigma_k}(D^2u) = f(x,u,Du)$ for $k \in \{l-1, l-2\}$, under a similar structural condition imposed on $f$ in the $Du$ variable, alongside an additional structural concavity assumption on the operator introduced by Lu-Tsai 2026, which has very recently been established in independent works.

A concavity inequality and interior $C^2$ estimate for Hessian quotient equations

We establish a concavity inequality for the Hessian quotient operators $\frac{\sigma_k}{\sigma_l}$ in the cases $k-l\in\{1,2\}$, and then derive the corresponding Jacobi inequality. Combining this with the framework developed by Lu and Tsai, we obtain an interior Hessian estimate for convex solutions of $\frac{\sigma_k(D^2u)}{\sigma_l(D^2u)}=f$. As an application, we prove that any entire convex solution in $\mathbb R^n$ with quadratic growth must be a quadratic polynomial.

Interior Hessian estimates for Hessian quotient equations

In this paper, we establish interior $C^2$ estimates for admissible semiconvex solutions to the general Hessian quotient equation $\frac{\sigma_k}{\sigma_l}(D^2u)=f(x,u),$ for the cases $l=k-1$ and $l=k-2$, where $f$ is a positive $C^2$ function. Such estimates are known to fail in general for $k-l\geq 3$, even for convex solutions, as shown by counterexamples due to Lu \cite{LuGeneral}. The main ingredient is a quantitative concavity inequality for the Hessian quotient operator under the semiconvex condition. Our result provides a unified argument to such general Hessian quotient equations for $2\leq k\leq n-1$ in arbitrary dimensions.

Sharp Hausdorff Bounds for the Interior Singular Set of Convex $k$-Hessian Solutions

Let $2\le k\le n$, let $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ be open and convex, and let $u$ be a convex viscosity solution of $\sigma_k(D^2u)=1$ in $\Omega$. We prove that the set on which $u$ fails to be locally $C^2$ has vanishing $(n-1)$-dimensional Hausdorff measure. In the intermediate range $3\le k<n$, this gives a codimension-one refinement of the known almost-everywhere partial regularity, and the exponent is sharp. More generally, for a convex viscosity subsolution of $\sigma_k(D^2u)\ge\lambda>0$, we obtain Hausdorff bounds for strata defined by the affine dimension of all supporting contact sets. The proof combines a support-dependent Chou--Wang barrier argument, an estimate for the product of the smallest $k$ semiaxes of a John ellipsoid, and Mooney's convex section-covering theorem. As a direct analytical consequence, the full distributional Hessian is absolutely continuous and $u\in W^{2,1}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\Omega)$, yielding a $k$-Hessian counterpart of the $W^{2,1}$ regularity known for singular Monge--Amp\`ere solutions. In a logically separate structural part, we characterize the distinguished number of flat directions, $n-k+1$, by an asymptotic infimum mean-value formula over affine sections, and explain how this mean-value heuristic leads to the supporting-contact geometry used in the proof.
