We study the maximal multiplicative persistence of $k$-cycles in random \v{C}ech complexes. Let $f:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}$ be a probability density function, let ${P}_n$ be a Poisson process with intensity $nf$, and let $\Pi_{k,n}$ denote the largest death-to-birth ratio among all non-essential $k$-cycles ($1\le k \le d-1$). For the uniform distribution in the unit hypercube, it was proved in [9] that $\Pi_{k,n} = \Theta\left( \left(\frac{\log n}{\log\log n}\right)^{1/k}\right)$. In this paper we sharpen and extend this result to a law of large numbers, for a broad class of distributions. Most significantly, we show that the limiting constant depends only on $d$ and $k$, and not on the probability density $f$. Thus the extreme value of multiplicative persistence exhibits a universality phenomenon. We show that the limiting constant is determined by the asymptotic covering density of the $k$-dimensional sphere. Our proof identifies the geometric mechanism underlying maximal cycles, a persistent isoperimetric inequality, which gives sharp bounds on the number of points needed to generate a highly persistent cycle. By combining covering-density estimates with isoperimetric inequalities, we show that this minimum is asymptotically attained by efficient coverings of a $k$-sphere. A key ingredient is a geometric measure theory argument that uses compactness to relate discrete covering counts to the volume of a limiting cycle.
Let $\mathcal{F}^{m}=\{A\subset[m]\}$, endowed with the symmetric difference metric and the Cardinality Reverse-Lexicographic order. That way, we compute the homotopy type $\operatorname{\v{C}ech}\left(\mathcal{F}_{\preceq a}^m; \frac{r}{2}=1\right)$ by relating it to consecutively adding vertices of $\mathbb{I}^m$, th...
Fix an integer $K\ge2$, and let $C_K^n =\{(e^{\frac{2\pi ij}{K}})_{j=0}^{K-1}\}^n$ be the product of cyclic groups of order $K$. For a Fourier character $\chi_\alpha$, let $s(\alpha)$ be the number of active coordinates. We give a self-contained proposed proof that the dimension-free Bohnenblust--Hille constants govern...
For integers $h,k\geq 1$, let $hA$ be the $h$-fold sumset of $A$ and put $\mathcal{R}(h,k)=\{|hA|:A\subset\mathbb{Z}, |A|=k\}$. Previously, the fixed-cardinality exponent law was known only for $k\leq 3$; every fixed $k\geq 4$ remained open. We settle the problem in full by determining the complete fixed-cardinality ex...
Let $w \colon (0,1) \to \mathbb{R}_{+}$ be a weight. We prove that for an arbitrary Schauder basis $\{e^{i \lambda_n t}\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}}$ in $L^2(0,1)$ and an arbitrary lacunary defect set $A \subset \mathbb{Z}$ the system $\{w(t) r_n(t)\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus A}$ is always complete and never minimal for any...
Let $d\geq 2$, $0<\alpha<1$, and let $\Gamma_k$ be the successive arrival times of a standard Poisson process on $(0,\infty)$. Given independent uniform directions $\varepsilon_k\in S^{d-1}$, independent of $(\Gamma_k)$, we consider the random countable stable zonotope $Z_\alpha=\bigoplus_{k=1}^{\infty}\Gamma_k^{-1/\al...
For $a,c\in\mathbb{N}$ and $b,d\in\mathbb{Z}$ such that the (non-empty) set \[ R_{a,b,c,d} :=\left\{\frac{an+b}{\,cn+d\,}: n\in\mathbb{N}\right\} \cap\bigl(\mathbb{Q}_{>0}\setminus\{1\}\bigr) \] is multiplicatively recurrent, we give a complete characterization of the set of limit points of every unimodular multiplicat...
