Foundations of Human-Centric AI and Machine Learning for Construction 6.0

Oct 2026 · CRC Press eBooks
BIM and Construction Integration

Abstract

The foundations of Human-Centric Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as enablers of Construction 6.0, emphasizing the integration of automation, cognitive systems, and human expertise are examined. The chapter outlines how Artificial Intelligence is transforming architecture, engineering, and construction through surrogate modeling, design-assist tools, predictive analytics, computer vision, robotics, IoT sensing, digital twins, and BIM-integrated workflows. The chapter highlights human-centered Artificial Intelligence principles—user-centric design, transparency, explainability, ethics, collaboration, context awareness, accessibility, and continuous learning—as essential for trustworthy and adaptive systems. It reviews Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications across the project lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance, demolition, and explores emerging methods such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Reading Comprehension, federated learning, synthetic data, and multimodal data fusion. Key challenges include data quality, interoperability, explainability, cybersecurity, user trust, and personalization. Overall, the chapter positions human-centered Artificial Intelligence as crucial for enabling safe, intelligent, and human-aligned Construction 6.0 ecosystems.
