“Geopolitical Conflicts and Renewable Energy Transition: An Empirical Analysis of the Impact of the U.S.–Iran War on Global Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability”

Abstract
Rising geopolitical conflicts between Iran and the US have had a far-reaching impact on world energy markets on green energy and the policies dealing with renewables. Interruptions in the supply of oil changes in the price of crude oil and the increasing alarm about energy security have all driven the worldwide enthusiasm for the implementation of renewable energy. The research seeks to empirically investigate the connections among geopolitical conflict, energy security issues, switch to renewable energy and environmental sustainability. The study explores in what way the U.S.–Iran conflict has influenced the general opinion of the public the support of the government policy of the investments and the consumption of renewable energy technologies.
The research employs the quantitative methodology with structured questionnaires administered to 350 energy consumers, academicians, environmental specialists and industrialists. Correlation analysis, Multiple regression, Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Structural equation modelling (SEM) are applied through the SPSS and SmartPLS software. It is likely that the results will show that geopolitical turbulence is good for people’s knowledge of renewable energy and the shift to clean energy because people worry more about fossil-fuel reliance and environmental danger. Moreover, policy intervention by the government and public environmental consciousness are expected to serve as mediators in the link between energy security and the acceptance of renewable energy.
The study advances our knowledge on how to transition to sustainable energy taking into account the political and environmental risks and the results will be of value to policy makers energy planners and environmentalists when they are looking at ways to secure a long-term sustainable energy supply and or develop in a sustainable way.
The article explores the development directions of Azerbaijan’s electric power system, considering the efficient use of alternative energy sources and their impact on the environment. Increasing geopolitical instability, environmental challenges, and growing energy demand are strengthening the importance of energy security and require diversification of generation sources. In this regard,
Azerbaijan is gradually adapting its national energy strategy to international trends by expanding the use of renewable energy sources and strengthening regional cooperation. Special attention is given to the strategic initiative aimed at creating the «Green Energy Corridor» Caspian–Black Sea–Europe, designed for the export of environmentally friendly electricity produced based on the wind potential of the Caspian Sea. This project contributes to the country’s integration into the international energy system and diversifies exports by reducing dependence on traditional oil and gas resources. The study analyzes statistical data on electricity generation in the country, including the growth dynamics of solar, wind, and hydropower production. According to estimates, Azerbaijan possesses significant technical potential for renewable energy both onshore and offshore, creating favorable conditions for large-scale green energy projects. The technological principles of wind, solar, and hydroelectric power plants are also discussed using simplified mathematical models describing their operational mechanisms. Additionally, the relationship between industrial production and economic growth is analyzed, confirming the strategic role of renewable energy development in reducing production costs and enhancing economic competitiveness. Overall, the results indicate substantial potential for sustainable development of the national energy system.

Geopolitical conflicts have become increasingly significant determinants of global business performance by generating uncertainty across energy markets, international trade, financial systems, and global supply chains. The recent escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has intensified concerns regarding global economic stability due to its strategic implications for energy security and international commercial activities. Despite extensive research on the macroeconomic and financial consequences of geopolitical conflicts, limited attention has been devoted to understanding their integrated implications for multinational enterprises and global business operations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of the United States–Israel–Iran conflict on global business by integrating perspectives from geopolitical risk, energy security, and supply chain resilience. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design using a systematic literature review approach. Secondary data were collected from peer-reviewed journal articles, academic publications, and reports from international organizations, which were analyzed through thematic content analysis. The findings indicate that the conflict influences global business through four interconnected transmission channels: geopolitical uncertainty, energy security disruption, global supply chain instability, and financial market volatility. These mechanisms increase production and transportation costs, weaken investor confidence, disrupt international trade, and encourage multinational corporations to adopt resilience-oriented strategies, including supplier diversification, regionalized production, and enhanced geopolitical risk management. This study contributes to the international business literature by developing an integrated analytical framework that explains how geopolitical conflict simultaneously affects business strategy, international investment, and supply chain resilience. The findings provide practical insights for policymakers and business leaders in strengthening organizational resilience and managing geopolitical risks within an increasingly uncertain global business environment.
Against the backdrop of global instability in energy and resource markets, ensuring the environmentally balanced development of national economies has become a top priority. For Ukraine,
which has overcome the consequences of the armed conflict, remains dependent on fossil fuels, and
is integrated into the European energy system, this task is complicated by many factors. The fragmentation of environmental regulations, the obsolescence of industrial infrastructure, and poor
coordination among government agencies are hindering the transition to a “green” economic
model. The aim of this article is a comprehensive study of the environmental sustainability of
Ukraine’s economy in the context of global energy and resource instability. The paper identifies key
elements of sustainability–the degree of energy sovereignty, resource consumption intensity, institutional effectiveness, and the level of environmental awareness–along with an analysis of the main
obstacles in each area. The study analyzes geopolitical factors destabilizing supply chains and the
role of international climate mechanisms (carbon regulation, “green” bonds) in enhancing the
economy’s adaptability. Energy transition scenarios for solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy are
examined, with a differentiation of potential benefits and limitations. Particular attention is paid
to the implementation of circular models in industry, construction, and the agricultural sector, the
adaptation of international environmental standards, and the development of environmental monitoring systems. Key actors in the environmental transition–from state regulators to local communities–are systematized. Strategic priorities include the modernization of energy infrastructure,
the development of distributed generation from renewable energy sources, tax incentives for
resource conservation, and the expansion of recycling capacities. Together, these measures will
increase Ukraine’s resilience to external shocks and strengthen its position in the clean technology
market.

Iran–United States conflict has had a significant impact on the geopolitics of West Asia, on the regional security, energy markets, and maritime trade and strategic relations. The region plays a special role in Indian interests, given its energy needs, huge expatriate population, connectivity efforts, and maritime interests. This paper discusses the transformation of west Asian geopolitics in the wake of the Iran–US conflict and its strategic consequences for India. It is based on academic research and literature, policy research and contemporary sources using qualitative method and addresses the issues of energy security, connectivity, maritime security and India's diplomatic engagement. The paper concludes that India's strategic autonomy and multi-alignment offers New Delhi the flexibility to keep relations with key regional and global actors positive without losing the upper hand in the game of preserving India's national interests. It also suggests that the evolving regional dynamics also offer opportunities to India to broaden its strategic and diplomatic presence in West Asia.

This review article analyses the effects of the global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy on international relations, particularly with regard to India. The increasing disparity between developed and developing nations, alongside escalating global power disputes, makes this study relevant considering India’s goal to achieve net-zero target by 2070 for sustainable environment. This research is primarily based on the secondary sources of data collected from peer-reviewed publications from Scopus and Web of Science, policy briefs and organizational reports from 2010 to 2025. The paper investigates the impact of the USA - China rivalry in the Indo-Pacific region on India’s energy strategies and planning. Further, this study compares India’s strengths and weaknesses with China by assessing secondary data on renewable energy, critical minerals, technological dependence, and geopolitical factors. The assessment indicates that India is susceptible because of its significant dependence on imported fossil fuels (85% of oil and over 50% of gas) alongside imported critical and rare earth minerals. The study underscores the significance of international collaboration, enhancement of local manufacturing, and regional alliances. Additionally, it highlights the necessity for an equitable transition framework to tackle social and economic issues in coal-reliant regions, enabling India to achieve its net-zero objectives and enhance its position in the energy transition of the global South.

This study examines the impact of green financial facilities on renewable energy consumption in selected countries during the period from 2010 to 2024. Using the dynamic panel data method and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimation model, the role of institutional, financial, and environmental variables in the development of clean energy has been analyzed. The results indicate that green financial facilities significantly and positively increase renewable energy consumption, thereby facilitating investment in low-carbon projects. In addition, the quality of environmental governance, as a key institutional factor, provides a favorable foundation for attracting green financing and fostering the sustainable development of renewable energy. The findings also reveal that greenhouse gas emissions act as a reactive driver; increasing pollution intensifies efforts to expand clean energy. Industrialization, as a structural variable, also contributes to the growth of renewable energy consumption by creating greater energy demand. This research emphasizes the importance of aligning financial, institutional, and environmental policies and suggests that to accelerate the transition to a green economy, targeted financial support and improved environmental governance should be prioritized by policymakers.
