TL;DR

Findings suggest that, within this sample, parents generally view AI positively and may be receptive to its integration into dental practice, which may support the appropriate integration of AI into dental practice.

Abstract

Aim

This study aimed to evaluate the attitudes and perceptions of parents of pediatric patients in our sample towards the growing use of artificial intelligence in dental practices.

Materials And Methods

The descriptive cross-sectional survey study was conducted with parents of pediatric patients who visited the Kırıkkale University School of Dentistry for routine dental examinations between 2024 and 2025. A 23-question survey was designed for participants to complete. The survey was evaluated as a scale consisting of three sub-dimensions. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27.

Results

A total of 74.4% of participants reported having an average level of self-reported knowledge about the digital world (internet/technology). The biggest advantage of AI identified by the participants was saving time (64.3%). The AI-Health Education Score differed significantly according to educational status (p = 0.003). The participants with a bachelor's degree had higher mean scores on AI-Health Education than high school graduates. The effect size was small (η²=0.051). The mean Physician-AI Collaboration Score for men was significantly higher than that for women. The effect size was small (Cohen's d = -0.305).

Conclusion

These findings suggest that, within this sample, parents generally view AI positively and may be receptive to its integration into dental practice. These results may support the appropriate integration of AI into dental practice. It is also necessary to assess the effects on patient satisfaction and the quality of healthcare services.

Evaluation of Turkish Dentists Perceptions and Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence

Aim: This study aims to examine the level of knowledge, awareness, and attitudes toward artifi-cial intelligence (AI) among dentists practicing in Türkiye, and to evaluate whether these varia-bles differ according to gender, age, and type of institution. Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study employed a 19-item question-naire developed following a comprehensive review of the literature. The survey was administered online to the participants. The required sample size was determined prior to the study using the formula for sample size calculation in a known population. A total of 274 dentists who complet-ed the questionnaire were included in the final analysis. Statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Results: Of the participants, 73.7% expressed a willingness to receive professional-level training in AI, 70.8% reported that AI would enhance professional opportunities, and 73.4% indicated that AI could be utilized as a treatment planning tool. Male participants perceived the potential of AI as a definitive diagnostic tool to be significantly higher compared to female participants (p < 0.05). Younger dentists (mean age: 28.24 ± 4.56 years) were significantly more likely to report concerns that AI may violate ethical principles in medicine and dentistry (p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that dentists’ awareness and attitudes toward AI applications are generally favorable. AI is perceived to offer particular utility as a tool for treatment planning and treatment monitoring. However, ethical concerns, patient privacy issues and insufficient training emerge as significant limitations. These findings underscore the need for the develop-ment of structured undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, the expansion of continuing pro-fessional development programs, the establishment of clear and comprehensive regulatory and legal frameworks, and the formulation of evidence-based clinical guidelines to ensure the sus-tainable integration of AI technologies into dental practice.

Evaluation of parents' knowledge and awareness of early orthodontic treatment for their children in Türkiye

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and awareness levels of parents in Turkish society regarding early orthodontic treatment and to explain how it is related to various factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The survey was distributed to voluntary participants across Türkiye via Google Forms. Sociodemographic data and data measuring the level of knowledge and awareness about early orthodontic treatment were obtained. Data analysis was performed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 25. Categorical and nominal variables were tested with Chi Square test. All P-values less than 0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS: Of the 671 patients, %50.4 reported that they would prefer an orthodontist for treatment. The biggest concern about early orthodontic treatment is that the treatment is expensive (%22.5). The level of education and knowledge of parents remained statistically significant (p<0.001). The knowledge level of individuals with a master's degree and above was found to be higher. CONCLUSIONS: Socioeconomic factors determine parents' approach to early orthodontic treatment. As income and education levels increase, the approach to early orthodontic treatment is positively affected. Providing education on early orthodontic treatment will increase the knowledge and awareness levels of individuals in society. In addition, social media serves as an important source for accessing information about early orthodontic treatment.

Oral health knowledge, attitude, and practices of parents of autistic children.

This research aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of parents with autistic children between the ages of 5 and 15 regarding their children's oral health. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 150 parents of autistic children in Ahvaz, Iran, using a researcher-designed questionnaire comprising four sections: demographic information, knowledge, attitude, and performance. The content validity was established by expert review and reliability tested through a pilot study (KR-20 coefficient for the knowledge domain; Cronbach's alpha for attitude and practice domains) with acceptable internal consistency. Each domain was assessed using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using one-sample t-test, chi-square test, correlation analysis, and linear regression, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Among the children, 91 (61.5%) were male; 67 (68.4%) brushed their teeth with maternal assistance; 62 (41.6%) had halitosis; and 58 (38.9%) exhibited bruxism. Moreover, 66 (44.0%) of parents believed that autism did not cause gingival disease in their children; 101 (67.3%) never used mouthwash; and 68 (57.3%) reported biannual dental visits. The mean knowledge, attitude, and performance scores were 5.58, 30.87, and 9.06, respectively. Parents demonstrated above-average knowledge and positive attitudes toward oral health, yet their practical performance remained below the expected level. Higher oral health knowledge and practice scores were significantly correlated with urban areas, higher maternal education and employed mother. Despite good knowledge and attitudes, parents' oral health practices were inadequate. Educational interventions emphasizing practical behavioral change are recommended to bridge the knowledge-practice gap.

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perspectives on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Future Healthcare Workforce

Positive correlations were identified among all measured dimensions, with the strongest association observed between hope and adaptation, and the findings indicate that students’ evaluations of artificial intelligence involve interrelated perceptions of knowledge, anxiety, positive expectations, and educational preparation needs.
