Bibliometric Analysis and Mapping of Quercetin Research on Cholesterol-Lowering Effects in Hypercholesterolemia in Vivo Studies (2015–2025)
Abstract
Quercetin is a flavonoid belonging to the flavanol class, widely found in fruits and vegetables. Research studies have investigated its biological activities, particularly its potential in reducing cholesterol levels. The objective of the study is to frame it as a bibliometric literature mapping, encompassing publication trends, top-cited papers, institutional and author contributions, sources, keyword dynamics, and collaboration networks. A total of 542 documents were retrieved using Boolean keywords. Bibliometric analysis was performed using R Studio and Biblioshiny to evaluate publication trends, contributing countries, leading institutions, authors, and keyword co-occurrences. The results indicate that China is the leading contributor, with Zhejiang Chinese Medical University as a prominent affiliation. The most frequent keywords include non-human, animal experiment, and controlled study. The findings highlight increasing research interest in quercetin as a natural compound for cholesterol management and emphasize the need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
