Abstract

The growing need for green transportation and decentralized energy systems has propelled the integration of smart Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructures. This paper introduces an integrated Photovoltaic (PV)-powered bidirectional EV charging system utilizing a Dual-Active Bridge (DAB) converter and grid-connected inverter to facilitate both Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) operations. The output power PV delivered to a common DC bus, by using proposed non-isolated Zeta DC-DC converter. A cascaded fuzzy logic-based MPPT controller provides maximum utilization of PV under dynamic irradiance conditions. The DAB converter allows bidirectional power transfer between EV battery and DC bus, regulated through a PI-controlled PWM mechanism for persistent regulated voltage. A three-phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) with LC filter provides grid interaction, enabling surplus solar energy or stored EV battery power to be fed into the grid in V2X operation. MATLAB/Simulink simulations confirm the system’s behavior under different operating modes and improved efficiency, lower harmonic distortion, and stable control operation. The proposed system presents an intelligent and scalable solution for future EV charging stations with the inclusion of renewable energy, grid support, and bidirectional mobility services.
