Abstract

The study assessed the effects of the nurses' performance on the patients' health service delivery and healthcare outcomes at Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTM) in Kalibo, Aklan. It specifically evaluated nurses' performance in terms of professional conduct, communication skills, clinical competence, teamwork and collaboration, and patient centered care; and perceived outcomes of health care services in terms of patient satisfaction, adherence to medication/instructions, and perceived quality of care. The study adopted descriptive-correlational research design and a purposive sampling of 172 patients was taken from various wards of the hospital. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data and frequency, percentage, weighted mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson r were used to analyze the data. The results showed that overall performance of the nurses was rated as Very Satisfactory, having an overall grand weighted mean of 3.63. Communication skills obtained the highest rating (3.74), followed by clinical competence (3.72), professional conduct (3.63), teamwork and collaboration (3.55), and patient-centered care (3.53). Health service delivery outcomes were likewise rated Very Satisfactory, with an overall grand weighted mean of 3.56. Adherence to medication/instructions obtained the highest rating (3.66), followed by perceived quality of care (3.54) and patient satisfaction (3.48). The findings further indicated significant relationships between nurses’ performance and healthcare service delivery outcomes, suggesting that effective communication, professional conduct, clinical competence, teamwork, and patient-centered care contribute to positive patient experiences and healthcare outcomes. The study concludes that nurses’ performance is an important factor in promoting quality healthcare delivery. Continuous professional development, communication training, collaborative practice, and strengthened patient-centered care are recommended to further improve nurse-patient relationships and healthcare services.
