Abstract

Healthy tire performance is a key to efficient and safe vehicle operation, and to date, the mainstream of conventional monitoring systems is limited to monitoring pressure only and does not involve a thorough analysis. The paper presents an Intelligent Framework of Tire Wellness that measures various tire parameters such as tread condition, temperature and pressure, with an ESP32-based embedded platform. The system uses sensor-based measurements and RFID-aided tread assessment to continuously measure tire condition at a prototype level. The measured data are broadcasted with Bluetooth Low Energy to a mobile application where real-time values, graphical trends, and notification alarms are shown to the user. Moreover, the application keeps the historical records and allows to export the data with timestamps which is subsequently checked and planned on the maintenance. The experimental implementation in laboratory conditions shows wireless communication, sensor based monitoring and alert generation within the presented tire wellness framework. The proposed scheme is a cost-effective, scalable proof-of-concept solution for intelligent tire monitoring for preventive maintenance and better vehicle safety.
