Abstract
Although research article abstracts in Indonesian journals have received many scholarly attention, studies in this area have limited focus on education discipline, more particularly comparing those in different Sinta accreditation status. By understanding this gap, this study intends to investigate whether across Sinta accreditation status influence their rhetorical moves in three groups of data: group A (Sinta 1 and Sinta 2), group B (Sinta 3 and Sinta 4), and group C (Sinta 5 and Sinta 6). Data in this study were 30 abstracts, taken 10 research article abstracts from each group. The analysis used genre analytical approach and reporting the results qualitatively. The results showed more similarities and fewer differences between groups. Four of the five rhetorical moves occurred consistently across all accreditation levels, whereas only Move 1 (Situating the Research) showed substantial variation, appearing in 70% of Sinta 1–4 but only 10% of Sinta 5–6 abstracts. These findings may contribute to extend earlier genre studies in research article abstracts in Indonesian context and contribute more understanding for novice authors for writing practices. Besides, the findings can draw implication for training research abstract writings.
Journal rankings are assumed to represent the quality of a publication, and research articles published in differently ranked journals are therefore expected to display different rhetorical patterns in their discussion sections. However, studies investigating the rhetorical patterns of discussion sections in research articles published in journals across different quartiles remain limited. This study was conducted to determine whether the journal quartile values influence the rhetorical moves and rhetorical patterns in the discussion sections of research articles on ELT. A mixed-methods approach using content analysis, following Drisko and Maschi (2016), was applied in this research. The data were selected from 80 discussion sections of research articles on ELT that followed the IMRD pattern and were published in internationally reputable journals across different quartiles, based on the SCImago database of 2023. The rhetorical moves in each discussion section were identified and coded following Peacock’s rhetorical move framework (2002). Quantitative analysis was conducted to determine the frequency of rhetorical move occurrences across different quartiles of journals and to identify the rhetorical pattern commonly found in each classification. The results reveal that higher-quartile journals use more complete rhetorical moves, while the lower-quartile journals tend to apply limited rhetorical moves. Consequently, this result leads to different patterns of rhetorical moves commonly found in the discussion sections of research articles published in journals across different quartiles. It is concluded that the quartile values of journals affect the use of rhetorical moves and lead to the development of common discussion-section patterns across different journal quartiles, which also contribute to well-structured research articles. The results have implications for academic writing courses, especially regarding current trends in the rhetorical structure of the discussion section of research articles based on the quartile value of the journals.

This study aims to investigate doctoral theses in media, journalism and communication studies in the Nordic countries between 2019 and 2023, with a particular focus on choices of thesis format and language. It aims to understand disciplinary patterns, institutional influences and the factors shaping doctoral candidates’ decisions.
The analysis combines a systematic review of all completed theses during the four-year period with a survey of recent graduates (n = 151). The review examines format, language, and open access availability, while the survey explores motivations and influences behind candidates’ choices.
An average of 14 theses were produced annually in the field. Article-based dissertations showed a clear upward trend, constituting roughly 52 % of all theses across the period. English was increasingly preferred, particularly in Finland and Sweden. Despite institutional open access mandates, one quarter of monograph theses were not available online. Survey responses indicate that candidates’ choices were primarily shaped by disciplinary conventions and supervisors’ preferences.
The findings are limited by variations in national reporting practices and the uneven availability of thesis data. Nevertheless, the results offer a basis for future comparative research on doctoral education and scholarly communication.
The study underscores the need for clearer supervision and institutional guidance regarding academic publishing strategies, open access compliance and the visibility of doctoral work. In general, it is essential to reflect on the alignment between publication format and the doctoral candidate’s individual strengths and circumstances, while critically interrogating established disciplinary norms to support a genuinely learner-centred doctoral trajectory.
The study offers insights for supervisors and students about how publication formats shape the doctoral studies supervision and learning process. Enhanced transparency and accessibility of doctoral theses may improve public understanding of media and communication research and support broader dissemination of scholarly knowledge.
This study provides a systematic, cross-Nordic overview of doctoral thesis practices in media, journalism, and communication studies, integrating both quantitative trends and doctoral graduates’ self-reported motivations.

This study examines research trends and emerging themes in Education 5.0 through a bibliometric and thematic document analysis. The data were collected from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection database using a structured search strategy within the SSCI and ESCI indexes. The search was limited to English-language articles published between 2016 and March 2026. Following the screening process, 57 articles directly related to the educational context were included in the analysis. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer to examine keyword clusters, country collaboration, temporal publication trends, research areas, and cited publications. In addition, the abstracts of the selected studies were analyzed to identify the most frequently occurring abstract terms and the emerging themes reflected in the abstracts. The findings suggest that Education 5.0 is a relatively new and emerging field that has shown a visible increase in publication activity after 2023. The literature reflects a multidisciplinary structure situated at the intersection of education, computer science, engineering, and sustainability-related perspectives, while international collaboration remains limited and fragmented. The thematic analysis revealed six major themes: transformation of education, technology integration, competency and skills development, implementation challenges, sustainability, and institutional transformation. Overall, the study provides a systematic overview of the intellectual structure and thematic directions of Education 5.0 research and offers implications for future research in the field.

Higher education has been affected by significant changes due to technological advances over the past decade. These advances have positively influenced various learning approaches, especially those related to collaborative learning. This article aims to analyze the impact of the metaverse on collaborative learning in higher education, based on a systematic review of the literature following the PRISMA methodology. During the search process, inclusion and exclusion criteria were established, considering the year of publication, language, databases (WoS and Scopus), study type, and thematic area of each document examined. As a result, 23 papers were deemed suitable for review. The findings indicated that the highest scientific output occurred between 2023 and 2024. The most frequently used database for publications on this topic was Scopus, accounting for 43.47% of the total documents examined. The predominant research methodology was quantitative, representing 52.17%. Additionally, four thematic areas related to the metaverse as a mediator of collaborative learning in higher education were identified. These categories include the educational process, technology, tools, and teaching methods influenced by virtual environments. It was concluded that collaborative learning benefits significantly from the metaverse, as the virtual reality it provides creates spaces for practice and reflection for university students, offering a more engaging and collaborative learning experience.
