Mapping the intellectual structure of digital humanities: A scientometric analysis

Abstract

Digital humanities has emerged as a rapidly expanding interdisciplinary field at the intersection of humanities, information science, and computational scholarship. The study employs standard bibliometric indicators and visualization techniques to analyse author productivity over time, Lotka's law of scientific productivity, most relevant countries by corresponding author, most cited countries, key word co-occurrence network, thematic mapping of terms and documents in digital humanities to understand its intellectual landscape.Authorship analysis indicates a dominance of single-authored publications, although collaborative research is also becoming increasingly prominent. United States and China emerged as the most productive countries, while citation impact was comparatively stronger in countries such as the United States, Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands. Keyword co-occurrence network and thematic analyses show that digital humanities is organized around interconnected themes such as information systems, computational models, networks, algorithms, knowledge, behaviour, impact, and scholarly communication. The study helps in understanding the intellectual and knowledge structure of digital humanities and offers insights for researchers, educators, policymakers, and library and information science professionals for conducting future studies on thematic evolution, interdisciplinary integration, and global research collaboration in the field of digital humanities.

Exploring digital culture: A bibliometric review using keyword co-occurrence and performance analysis

Digital culture has become a central organizational phenomenon shaping how firms navigate digital transformation, emerging technologies, and sustainability pressures, yet prior research remains fragmented across disciplines and contexts. This study provides the first large-scale bibliometric mapping of digital culture research from an organizational perspective. Using the Scopus database, we analyzed 212 publications published between 2008 and 2025. Bibliometric techniques and VOSviewer were applied to examine (i) annual publication trends, (ii) thematic structures through keyword co-occurrence networks, (iii) influential knowledge producers across authors, affiliations, and countries, and (iv) document type distribution to infer field maturity. The results show a clear acceleration after 2020, culminating in more than 60 publications per year by 2025, indicating that digital culture has shifted from a niche conceptual topic to a consolidated research stream. Keyword co-occurrence reveals eight interconnected thematic clusters, with “digital culture” and “digital transformation” acting as the primary conceptual anchors and linking strongly to (1) digitalization and Industry 4.0 in SMEs, (2) performance and dynamic capabilities, (3) sustainability/ESG-oriented transformation, (4) digital strategy and structural alignment, (5) AI and IoT as emerging technological drivers, (6) the digital economy, (7) marketing and consumer interaction, and (8) leadership-driven innovation. Country production patterns highlight a recent geographic diversification, with rapid growth from emerging economies alongside established contributors. Document type analysis further indicates a field dominated by journal articles (68.0%), supported by book chapters (18.5%) and conference papers (11.0%), while reviews remain scarce, suggesting strong empirical expansion but limited synthesis. Overall, the study clarifies the intellectual structure, growth trajectory, and research frontiers of digital culture, offering a structured knowledge map to guide future theory building and research agendas.

Global Trends in Digital Literacy and Women Entrepreneurship: Insights from a Bibliometric Analysis

Digital literacy has become a key driver of women’s entrepreneurship in the evolving digital economy, enabling access to information, markets, and financial resources. Despite increasing academic attention, the research landscape at the intersection of digital literacy and women entrepreneurship remains fragmented. The aim of this study is to provide a detailed bibliometric analysis to map the global trends in research, the intellectual structures and emerging themes in this field. The analysis is performed based on publications published in the Scopus database from 2021 to 2026. The performance analysis and science mapping techniques are used to analyse the growth of publications, leading authors, influential journals and country level contributions. Collaboration analysis using co-authorship, co-citation and keyword co-occurrence methods are performed to detect the co-authorship patterns and thematic clusters in the literature. The results show that there is a considerable increase in research activity over the last few years, which points to an increase in research interest in digital inclusion and women’s economic empowerment globally. The paper covers the studies on financial inclusion, e-commerce adoption, financial empowerment, and financial skill development. The analysis also yields an impression of regional imbalance, with more publications from developed countries and less from developing economies, notwithstanding their context. The present study helps in this regard in providing a structured overview of the knowledge domain and highlighting the research gaps. It offers insights and relevance for researchers, policy makers and practitioners on how the transformative potential of digital literacy in promoting inclusive and sustainable womenled entrepreneurship.

The Impact of Digital Transformation on Contemporary Humanities Research

The digital turn has both radically altered the epistemological guiding principles, methodologies and forms of dissemination of current humanities studies. The humanities have had a traditionally qualitative and interpretative grounding, involving close reading and archival research; however, it has been supplemented notably by computational tools, massive digital corporates, and dataprojects that rely on data analytics. The paradigm shift, which is commonly summarised as the digital humanities, has facilitated a situation where scholars are now able to question culture, history and literary phenomena on a greater scale and intricacy than before. The paper offers a profound analysis of how digital transformation affects the modern humanities research. It combines interdisciplinary literature in digital humanities, information science, cultural analytics and computational social science. This paper examines how digitization, algorithm techniques and networked infrastructures have increased the possibilities of research and inhalated new epistemic, ethical and interpretative predicaments at the same time. Digital archives, text mining, spatial humanities, network analysis, and collaboration research platforms are some of the key areas of transformation. The proposed methodological framework contains five dimensions of measuring digital transformation, namely data acquisition, analytical methods, interpretive validity, scholarly collaboration, and dissemination of research. Testing The empirical findings of the case-based analysis indicate remarkable improvement in research scalability, reproducibility, and interdisciplinarity. Nonetheless, their issues associated with algorithmic bias, the loss of context, and asymmetrical access to digital content continue to exist. These results indicate that digital transformation can not substitute the classic humanities research but can enrich it with hybrid approaches, which combine computational rigor with humanistic comprehension. The paper ends with a description of the future research directions, including ethical AI, explainable computational models and sustainable digital infrastructures of humanities research.
