IDSX v0.2.1: Domain Rules, Audit Semantics and Reference Implementation

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

IDSX v0.2.1 is a software distribution combining the IDSX specification with executable reference implementations for domain-rule validation and normative audit resolution. IDSX complements the buildingSMART Information Delivery Specification (IDS) by addressing engineering requirements involving domain relationships, relationship cardinality, complex connectivity, multi-element rules, and other constraints that cannot be adequately represented using native IDS constructs alone. This release comprises three principal components: IDSX Specification — an XML-based specification defining vocabulary, schema, audit semantics, relationship rules, relationship cardinality, and canonical examples for executable domain rules. The specification version included in this software release remains IDSX v0.2. IDSX Checker — a reference implementation for evaluating IDS and IDSX audit artefacts against IFC information models. It supports machine-readable audit evidence including JSON reports and BCF output. IDSX Normative Audit Profile Resolver — a reference implementation for resolving applicable IDS and IDSX artefacts from normative catalogues, audit profiles, dictionary contexts, and exact normative revisions. IDSX distinguishes consistency-oriented auditing of partial or shared information from completeness-oriented auditing of defined published delivery scopes. This enables the same engineering rule definitions to participate in different information-delivery stages while preserving explicit audit semantics. The specification, checker, and normative resolver are independently reusable components. IDSX is also used as an audit technology by the Energy Domain App, a modular desktop engineering suite that orchestrates engineering information visualization, normative selection, and automated compliance workflows. This record contains the complete IDSX v0.2.1 software source snapshot, including the IDSX v0.2 specification, XML schema, checker, normative resolver, examples, tests, and supporting operational documentation. The software files in this record are currently restricted while licensing, governance, and distribution conditions are being defined by the project stakeholders. The presence of this record and DOI does not constitute permission to use, redistribute, modify, or sublicense the software.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Agile methods in European embedded software development organisations: a survey on the actual use and usefulness of Extreme Programming and Scrum

The results show that the embedded industry has been able to apply agile methods in its development processes and that the appreciation of the agile methods and their individual practices appears to increase once adopted and applied in practice.

Requirements Don’t Live in Isolation: What We’re Exploring with Req-Space

Requirements in large systems rarely exist in isolation. Their meaning depends on the wider project context - other requirements, policies, decisions, tests, and implementation details. That becomes especially important when AI is used for review, because spotting a possible conflict or gap is only the beginning. ReqSpace explores how AI, visualisation, and connected project context can help reviewers understand those findings, trace the relationships behind them, and focus on the questions that…

Beyond Prompt Engineering: The Role of Tacit Knowledge in Software Engineering

AI is making software generation faster, but speed does not remove the need for expertise. As more work is delegated to AI, tacit knowledge may become one of the most important human advantages in software engineering.
