An Analysis of Opportunities and Challenges in The Implementation of Organic Farming in Ngawi Regency, East Java
Abstract
This qualitative case study examines the opportunities, challenges, and development strategies of organic farming in Ngawi Regency based on in-depth interviews with 35 informants, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that key opportunities include favorable geographical conditions, growing environmental awareness among farmers, long-term cost efficiency, government policy support, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. However, adoption is constrained by farmers' hesitancy about crop yields, limited market reach, complex and costly certification processes, and restricted access to agricultural technology and information. To overcome these barriers, strategic priorities must focus on strengthening farmer group institutions for collective certification and marketing, enhancing farmer capacity through continuous training, and expanding multi-stakeholder partnerships. This study's novelty lies in integrating the Sustainable Environmentally Friendly Agriculture (PRLB) program evaluation, SWOT analysis, and a multi-stakeholder perspective to provide practical recommendations for sustainable organic agriculture.
