CLOUD COMPUTING, EDGE COMPUTING, AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS TECHNOLOGIES, ARCHITECTURES AND REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

This book provides a comprehensive overview of Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), focusing on their fundamental concepts, technologies, architectures, and real-world applications. It explains cloud service models, deployment approaches, virtualization, distributed computing, and cloud-based data management, along with the emerging role of edge computing in reducing latency and enabling efficient processing closer to data sources. The book also explores IoT architectures, communication technologies, sensors, devices, connectivity, data analytics, and intelligent systems. Particular attention is given to practical applications in smart cities, healthcare, agriculture, industrial automation, transportation, energy management, and other technology-driven environments. Security, privacy, scalability, interoperability, and emerging challenges are also discussed. The book is designed to serve as a useful reference for students, researchers, educators, and professionals seeking to understand and apply these technologies in modern digital environments.
