Abstract

Haidong New City district, located on the east bank of Erhai Lake in Dali, is characterized by complex topography and significant mountainous relief. Over the past decade, extensive urban development and construction have substantially altered and disrupted the original geomorphology, resulting in multiple potential geological hazard sites across the new district, including land subsidence, landslides, and ground deformation. This paper focuses on elucidating the spatial distribution and intrinsic causative mechanisms of land subsidence in the Haidong New City district. We acquired 75 ascending and 77 descending Sentinel-1A SLC images. The Small Baseline Subset Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (SBAS-InSAR) technique was employed to calculate and analyze land subsidence rates and time-series deformation. Furthermore, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) monitoring data were utilized to validate the InSAR-derived subsidence results. Through a comparative analysis, this paper summarizes the temporal evolution of land subsidence over the past five years and investigates its underlying causes in the subsidence-prone areas of Haidong New City district. The findings provide a scientific basis for future urban development planning and the prevention and control of subsidence-related disasters in the region.

Integrating Ascending–Descending SBAS and PS-InSAR to Monitor Landslide Deformation in the Jinsha River Batang Reach, China

The Jinsha River Basin on the eastern margin of the Qinghai–Xizang (Tibetan) Plateau is one of the most landslide-prone regions globally. The Batang reach (from Suwalong Township to Changbo Township) lies in the core of the Jinsha River Suture Zone, characterized by complex geological conditions and frequent landslide...

Monitoring and Assessment of Coastal Hazard Potential Induced by Reclamation-Related Subsidence: An Integrated InSAR and Coastline-Change Approach in Fangchenggang, China

Land subsidence in coastal reclamation areas has emerged as one of the critical hidden hazards for coastal cities. This paper presents an integrated InSAR and coastline-change framework for land subsidence monitoring and driving-factor analysis in coastal reclamation cities. Taking the Fangchenggang City, China, as the...

Quantifying spatiotemporal land subsidence rates and deformation hotspots using integrated GNSS and InSAR in Nakuru County, Kenya

Land subsidence is an emerging environmental and geohazard challenge in groundwater-dependent and tectonically active regions. This study quantified the spatiotemporal distribution of land subsidence in Nakuru County, Kenya, between 2014 and 2024 using an integrated Persistent Scatterer–Small Baseline Subset (PS–SBAS)...

Long-term surface deformation and differential settlement assessment of an urban reclaimed land revealed by multi-sensor InSAR time-series analysis

Land reclamation in coastal regions presents geotechnical challenges, and continuous, site-wide monitoring of settlement can provide auxiliary information to support serviceability management once a site is operational. This study evaluates the 14-year spatiotemporal deformation of the H-Site within Cheongna Intern...
