Abstract

In urban canyons, blockage and multipath degrade conventional geometric localization, while RSS/RSRP fingerprint maps provide limited distinguishability under single-base-station conditions. This paper uses RT-generated small-scale radio maps with AoA, delay, and RSS features, and estimates the UE position by KNN matching. Experiments in 13 urban canyon scenarios evaluate map/observation noise, map resolution, feature combinations, and KNN parameters. The results show meter-level accuracy under low noise, a stronger impact from observation noise than map perturbations, and the dominant contribution of azimuth AoA and delay, whereas RSS alone is insufficient. These results indicate that small-scale radio maps provide useful spatial priors when path-feature discriminability, map resolution, and observation quality are consistent.

Single-Base-Station NLoS Outdoor Localization via Sequential Radio-Map Matching

Accurate outdoor localization in Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) environments remains a critical challenge for wireless communication and sensing systems. Existing methods, including positioning based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and triple Base Stations (BSs) techniques, cannot provide reliable performanc...

A parametric model of multipath delay errors in complex reflective environments

In complex navigation and positioning environments such as urban areas, urban canyons, it is challenging to distinguish whether a received signal corresponds to a severely delayed multipath component or to a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal. To address this issue, this paper proposes a mathematical hypothesis model of r...

Map-Free Single-Anchor Position Localization Using Multipath Uncertainty at Upper Mid-Band

Future 5G-Advanced and 6G systems will exploit directional wideband channels for path-based localization, yet map-free indoor positioning remains challenging because extracted multipath components (MPCs) vary widely in localization reliability. This paper presents an uncertainty-aware map-free single-anchor localizatio...

Detecting Reliable Receiver Subsets for TDOA Localization Under Non-Line-of-Sight Using Subset Expansion

Accurate time difference of arrival (TDOA) localization depends on reliable measurements. In cluttered indoor and urban environments, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation is common. It introduces positive excess delays and biases TDOA observations. This letter studies receiver subset selection for TDOA localization und...

Scalable multipath detection from standard GNSS correlators using multifrequency diversity

Multipath propagation fundamentally limits wireless positioning in dense urban environments, yet existing mitigation methods often rely on specialized hardware or poorly interpretable data-driven models. We propose a multi-frequency cross-product area (MF-CPA) framework for multipath detection using only standard early...

A Large-Scale LoRa Measurement Campaign for Path-Loss Modeling in Urban and Suburban Environments

Low-power wide-area networks, particularly Long-Range (LoRa), are important enablers of large-scale internet of things deployments in urban environments. However, inconsistencies in measurement methodologies have led to limitations in the accuracy and reproducibility of path loss models. This work presents a large-scal...
