Sep 2026 · Stanzaleaf International Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies · 0 citations · 2 references

Abstract

AI is one of the essential technological developments that have taken place in English Language Teaching (ELT). New opportunities for language learning are presented by AI tools like ChatGPT, intelligent tutoring systems, speech-recognition software and automated writing tools. They are able to facilitate personalised learning, communication practice, writing development, vocabulary building, and immediate feedback. Meanwhile, AI presents issues of academic honesty, inaccuracy, privacy, inequity and reliance. Hence, AI needs to be used as an assistant pedagogical tool and not as a replacement of teachers. This article explores the impact of AI in ELT, considers its impact on language abilities, and discusses the shifting nature of the teacher's role, its challenges and future possibilities. It proposes that AI can be a valuable tool in the realm of effective English language education when used in a balanced, ethical, and human-centred manner.
