Abstract
Accurate shear wave velocity (VS) estimates are essential for seismic inversion and reservoir characterisation. The cost and operational requirements of dipole sonic logging can limit the availability of measured VS. Predicting VS from conventional well logs is a practical alternative. Empirical relationships can be sensitive to geological setting, whereas deep learning models trained on limited data may predict less accurately in wells excluded from training. This paper presents an Adaptive Gated Compensation Network (AGC-Net) that combines a physics-inspired linear shortcut with a gated deep sequence pathway. The linear branch provides a baseline estimate, while temporal convolutions and attention model nonlinear corrections. An input-dependent enhancement gate scales these corrections, and a composite loss combines mean squared error with a concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) loss. On the blind test well, AGC-Net outperformed eight baselines, achieving a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.808. The root mean square error and mean absolute error were 70.5 m/s and 53.9 m/s, respectively. Ablation experiments supported the contributions of the linear shortcut, gated enhancement and CCC loss within the evaluated split. Removing the linear shortcut caused the largest decline in blind-well accuracy.
The shallow shear-wave velocity structure obtained from surface-wave dispersion inversion is essential for seismic site characterization; however, deterministic inversion provides only point estimates without uncertainty, while existing probabilistic approaches often lack coverage calibration, systematic robustness e...

Small-strain stiffness and shear wave velocity (Vs) are key parameters in geotechnical and seismic design, yet direct in situ seismic measurements are often unavailable in routine site investigations. This study evaluates and recalibrates CPT-based Vs correlations for the geological conditions of Budapest, Hungary, usi...

A major limiting factor for adaptive-optic systems is the cumulative latency inherent in the control loop. One way to address the latency problem is to use multiple apertures, where upstream wavefront measurements can be used to predict the wavefronts over the main aperture. In this work, the multiple aperture predicti...

Full waveform inversion (FWI) estimates subsurface velocity from seismic recordings, but its ill-posedness and nonlinearity make accurate reconstruction strongly dependent on initialization and prior information. Diffusion posterior sampling provides a learned geological prior, yet directly coupling its denoiser to the...

Scalar travel-time relations can identify propagation geometry without velocity inputs, ray labels or equation supervision during learning. Physical interpretation is applied after learning through the high-frequency isotropic eikonal relation (Aki and Richards, 2002). Here we show that local value differences constrai...
