Data and code supporting concurrent burned-area detections and persistent agro-pastoral conversion after first forest loss in the Peruvian Amazon

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

This release supports the study “Concurrent burned-area detections are associated with persistent agro-pastoral conversion after first forest loss in the Peruvian Amazon”. Version 1.1.0 adds Supplementary_Data_1_Active_Fire_Analysis.zip, containing the complementary historical NASA FIRMS MODIS and Suomi-NPP VIIRS analysis, the fixed protocol, input data, derived matching results, scripts, environment requirements, provenance, checksums, tests and independent verification results. Download and extract this ZIP without changing its folder structure, then open 08_VALIDACION_FUEGO_ACTIVO/START_HERE_REVIEWERS.md. The ZIP is 17,955,692 bytes and contains 59 files. The original cohort archive fire_loss_conversion_peruvian_amazon_v1.0.0.zip and its separate companion files are preserved unchanged. Those historical companions retain the original title, DOI, version and figure numbering. For this release, read START_HERE_VERSION_1_1_0.md and use CITATION_VERSION_1_1_0.cff. The original release remains available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.21881539. The study uses a retrospective spatial cohort sampled on a systematic 0.01° lattice in stable forests of the Peruvian Amazon. Hansen Global Forest Change defines first loss during 2014–2021; MapBiomas Peru Collection 3 defines baseline and subsequent land cover; MapBiomas Fire and GABAM define concurrent burned-area detection categories. Persistent conversion requires anthropogenic cover in each of three consecutive post-loss years. The original archive reproduces analyses from derived panels, not the raster-to-panel extraction. The estimates are associational. Thermal observations corroborate nearby combustion but do not validate individual 30 m burned pixels or subsequent land use. No field photographs or field campaign data are included. This dataset release does not publish the manuscript or confidential review correspondence. Author-owned material is covered by the record-level CC BY 4.0 licence. Software in the preserved original code folder retains its included additional MIT licence. NASA data and other third-party materials retain their original terms, attribution and disclaimers and are not relicensed by this deposit. See START_HERE_VERSION_1_1_0.md for details. Funding: This research received no external funding.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Requirements Don’t Live in Isolation: What We’re Exploring with Req-Space

Requirements in large systems rarely exist in isolation. Their meaning depends on the wider project context - other requirements, policies, decisions, tests, and implementation details. That becomes especially important when AI is used for review, because spotting a possible conflict or gap is only the beginning. ReqSpace explores how AI, visualisation, and connected project context can help reviewers understand those findings, trace the relationships behind them, and focus on the questions that…

Beyond Prompt Engineering: The Role of Tacit Knowledge in Software Engineering

AI is making software generation faster, but speed does not remove the need for expertise. As more work is delegated to AI, tacit knowledge may become one of the most important human advantages in software engineering.
