Elevated remnant cholesterol (RC) levels are associated with an increased risk of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Our study aimed to explore the association between RC and stroke severity and short-term clinical outcome in AIS patients.
Patients diagnosed with AIS and admitted to the Central Hospital of Dalian University of Technology from August 2024 to November 2024 were enrolled. Stroke severity was assessed using the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale. Short-term outcome was evaluated using the modified Rankin Scale at discharge or 14 days after onset. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and exploratory subgroup analysis were conducted to evaluate the association between RC levels and stroke severity and short-term outcome.
No significant association was found between RC and either stroke severity or short-term outcome in between-group comparison or multivariate logistic regression analysis. However, exploratory subgroup analysis showed that among patients with combined intracranial and extracranial arterial stenosis, higher RC levels were independently associated with poor short-term outcomes, with each 1 mmol/L increase in RC conferring a 23% higher risk of poor outcome (
P
trend < 0.05).
RC was not significantly associated with stroke severity or short-term outcomes overall. The exploratory finding of a potential association in patients with combined intracranial and extracranial artery stenosis requires independent validation in future studies.
OBJECTIVES
To explore the association between treatment strategy and functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and assess whether this association is modified by stroke severity and imaging findings.
METHODS
We conducted a retrospective single-center cohort study of adults with AIS treated between March 2023...

Background/Objectives: Elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) has been associated with adverse outcomes after acute ischemic stroke (AIS), but whether the association differs by stroke etiology remains uncertain. We evaluated elevated CRP in relation to 3-month functional outcome across Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Tr...

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and early prognostic assessment is crucial for optimizing patient management. Lactate is an important biomarker reflecting tissue hypoxia and metabolic disorders, and its relationship with short-term mortality risk has not been fully clarified. This...

Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is a frequent and serious complication after endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke and is strongly associated with poor clinical outcomes. While several predictors of HT have been identified, factors in fluencing the severity of HT, particularly hemorrhage volume,...

While intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) and insulin resistance (IR) often co-occur in ischemic stroke, their combined prognostic impact is unclear; we hypothesized their synergy predisposes to worse short-term outcomes.
