Abstract

Objective: To compare the efficacy of the diagnostic methods for endometrial cancer in postmenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding, namely hysteroscopy and curettage, analyzing the main clinical and diagnostic aspects, sensitivity, specificity, safety and patient well-being. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, through research in online databases, PubMed and the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Twenty-two publications related to curettage were identified, of which 7 were selected to be part of the work. Regarding hysteroscopy, 56 records were found, of which 8 were selected for the series analyzed in this work. Results: 13 of the 16 studies analyzed in this literature review corroborate, based on reliable analytical methods, that hysteroscopy is a more accurate diagnostic method than semiotic curettage. Furthermore, it also brings specific positive points to hysteroscopy, such as greater diagnostic accuracy, possibility of a targeted biopsy, better detection of endometrial polyps, reduction of false negatives, better direct visual assessment of the uterine cavities, and better long-term cost-effectiveness ratio. Conclusion: The research represents an advance in gathering data that can support revisions of clinical protocols and guidelines, contributing to the adoption of more effective and safer technologies such as hysteroscopy, which demonstrates greater diagnostic accuracy in relation to curettage. In addition, it highlights gaps in current knowledge, serving as a starting point for new research aimed at improving these resources that prioritize women's health.
