TL;DR

Investigation of the bacterium Paracoccus denitrificans for polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production on eight organic carbon substrates found that butyrate and crotonate activations are catalyzed by propionyl-CoA synthetase, and Membrane inlet mass spectrometry demonstrated that the FnrP mutant has an impaired denitrification pathway.

Catabolism of diethyl ether as a sole carbon and energy source by Mycolicibacterium sp. ELW1

The model isobutylene (IB)-metabolizing strain Mycolicibacterium sp. ELW1 grew aerobically on diethyl ether (DEE) as a sole carbon and energy source. DEE supported an equivalent biomass yield to IB despite strong effects of DEE concentration on growth rate and lag phase. Differential expression analysis of the transcri...

Biochar-Facilitated Extracellular Electron Synergism Between Anammox and Denitrifying Bacteria for Enhanced Nitrogen Removal

Low temperature is one of the critical limiting factors for anammox. To address this, our study investigated whether biochar could enhance the nitrogen metabolism of anammox consortia at 15 °C by serving as an exogenous electron shuttle. Compared with the control, biochar addition effectively improved the total nitroge...

Genomic potential for complete denitrification by Desulfobacillus in anammox bioreactors.

Desulfobacillus are frequently observed as abundant flanking denitrifying microorganisms in anammox bioreactors and wastewater treatment systems. Previous studies suggested that Desulfobacillus lacked canonical nitric oxide reductase, restricting them to incomplete denitrification. As a result, they were thought to pro...

Light-enhanced polyhydroxyalkanoate accumulation in the aerobic anoxygenic phototroph Roseibium alexandrii MAR44.

Marine phototrophic bacteria represent promising platforms for sustainable microbial biopolymer production. Here, we report the screening and functional characterization of MAR44, a Mediterranean isolate identified as the aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacterium (AAPB) Roseibium alexandrii. This strain carries a compl...
