Abstract
This paper examines the textbook curriculum of formal education designed for primary school children in Bangladesh. It focuses on the development, preservation, and transmission of cultural identity, cultural diversity, and social cohesion through educational materials, including textbooks. The study seeks to explore how cultural discourses, ideologies, and inclusive ideals are constructed and communicated to young learners. We employed a descriptive textual analysis method to examine the content in two official textbooks: Amar Bangla Boi (My Bengali Book) and Bangladesh and Global Studies (BGS), designed for Classes IV and V. Our analysis assessed the suitability of these textbooks in preserving and transmitting cultural identity and social cohesion, as well as their alignment with the values and ethics of the diverse cultures represented. Through our textual analysis, we found that both textbooks adopt a structured and multifaceted approach to cultural education. Rather than treating culture as a standalone subject, they integrate cultural elements throughout their content, employing a range of pedagogical strategies. The curriculum weaves together literature, history, geography, and social studies to cultivate cultural awareness, ultimately nurturing informed citizens with a strong sense of identity and an appreciation for Bangladesh’s rich and diverse heritage.

This article analyzes the pedagogical practices of literacy in the 4th and 5th grades of Elementary School in a municipal school in Manaus, investigating their importance for the development of students' reading and writing skills. The research, with a qualitative approach of a descriptive and exploratory nature, was developed with five teachers, 36 students, school administrators, and a pedagogical coordinator. Data collection occurred through methodological triangulation: semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, focus groups, and document analysis. The results revealed significant tensions between the theoretical discourse aligned with contemporary conceptions of literacy as a social practice and the predominantly traditional pedagogical practice, with an emphasis on mechanical activities. The main challenges include the heterogeneity of learning levels, the scarcity of adequate didactic resources, and limitations in ongoing teacher training. It is concluded that the effective promotion of literacy requires not only the updating of pedagogical practices but also the overcoming of structural challenges that permeate the reality of Brazilian public schools.

This study aims to analyze the role of hidden curriculum in the character education of elementary school students through the Systematic Literature Review approach based on the PRISMA protocol. Data was collected from Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar as of June 7, 2026 using a title-abs-key search strategy, with a total of 136 initial articles filtered into 26, then 15 at the eligibility stage, and finally 11 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the study show that the hidden curriculum is implemented through habituation of religious activities, teacher examples, discipline culture, as well as social interaction and extracurricular activities that are integrated into school culture. The practice contributes to the formation of characters such as discipline, religious, responsibility, social concern, honesty, and creativity which are reflected in the changes in students' daily behavior. However, its effectiveness varies depending on contextual factors such as teacher consistency, school culture, and family support. The relationship between hidden curriculum practices and behavioral changes is implicit causal through habituation, modeling, and social reinforcement mechanisms. These findings imply that educators and policymakers need to institutionalize the hidden curriculum through strengthening school culture, teacher exemplary training, and integration in systematic character education programs.
This study aims to explore the phenomenon of cultural diversity in an Islamic elementary school and to examine students’ social interactions as well as the school’s strategic role in fostering an inclusive multicultural environment. A qualitative case study design was employed involving 36 fifth-grade students from two classes. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with school stakeholders, and document analysis, and were analyzed using data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing with source triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings indicate that students and teachers demonstrated highly positive responses toward cultural diversity through openness, mutual respect, curiosity, and collaborative learning practices that strengthened intercultural understanding. These positive outcomes were reinforced by inclusive school policies, proactive leadership in promoting tolerance, and continuous teacher guidance that emphasized equality, respect, and national unity. The integration of these strategies created a harmonious learning environment where students from different cultural backgrounds interacted constructively without discrimination. The study implies that comprehensive multicultural leadership, supported by inclusive policies and culturally responsive teaching practices, can serve as an effective framework for promoting social cohesion, equitable learning opportunities, and sustainable multicultural education in diverse elementary school settings.

English is a foreign language taught in Indonesia. One of the biggest problems in teaching English as a foreign language is how to bridge students’ language proficiency and their indigenous cultural identity. The present study investigates the need for designing culturally responsive instructional materials for students of a Hindu higher education institution in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. This research uses an explanatory mixed methods design to implement the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) model to assess the pedagogical and cultural needs for the development of genre-based English teaching materials. Using purposive sampling, this study included 120 students, 5 lecturers, 5 cultural practitioners, and 1 head of the study programme. The study data were collected through questionnaires, document analysis, and semi-structured interviews with lecturers, students, programme administrators, and cultural practitioners. The findings show a critical gap between curriculum policy and classroom practice, indicating the need for urgent genre-based scaffolding and technology based and contextualised content. Cultural analysis identifies that material artefacts (e.g., Batang Haring), social practices (rituals), and philosophical values (Tri Hita Karana) are crucial elements in enhancing the relevance of learning. These results provide a framework for mapping local wisdom into functional texts, ensuring English materials are both linguistically sound and culturally grounded. This study recommends developing technology-based English materials infused with local wisdom as a strategic solution for meaningful, contextualised language learning.

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the role of the traditional egrang game in fostering cultural literacy in elementary school students, particularly those related to the values of cooperation, cultural identity, diversity, and awareness of preserving local cultural heritage in the context of social studies learning.
Methodology: The study used a descriptive qualitative approach. Subjects were selected purposively, involving fifth-grade students, extracurricular teachers, social studies teachers, and the principal at an elementary school in Purwakarta. Data collection was conducted through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and field documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman interactive model with source triangulation to ensure the credibility of the findings.
Main Findings: Egrang have been shown to foster three dimensions of students' cultural literacy: (1) recognition of local culture with a Very good score on the identification of egrang as a traditional heritage and part of regional cultural identity; (2) understanding of the values of cooperation, hard work, and diversity that emerged organically during the game without explicit instruction; (3) the highest cultural awareness, characterized by students' enthusiasm and willingness to pass on egrang to the next generation.
Novelty/Originality of this study: This research is the first to specifically integrate egrang into a cultural literacy framework within the context of elementary school social studies education. Unlike previous studies that focused on motor skills or general character, this study offers a new perspective on egrang potential as a contextual and meaningful medium for social studies learning based on local culture.
This research shows that the integration of neo-humanistic principles and local knowledge turns digital English language teaching into a full learning experience beyond the simple mastery of the language.
