Fault Location Method for Overhead Lines Based on Traveling Wave Detection

Abstract

This paper presents a Single-End Adaptive Traveling-Wave Fault Location (SEA-TWFL) model for overhead lines. In this model, a deep wavelet hybrid network (DWHN) is put forward for robust wavefront detection,. A virtual reference point (VRP) mechanism is proposed to eliminate dependence on communication from the remote end. An online dynamic speed correction (DSPI) strategy is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed model is superior to the conventional two-ended and single-ended reflection methods in terms of localisation accuracy, particularly for the high-resistivity grounding fault condition of up to 2000 Ω, while preserving computational efficiency for real-time deployment. The findings corroborate the SEA-TWFL model as a low-cost and dependable approach for overhead line fault localisation in smart grid applications.
