NUMEN Verified Core Library v3.0: Formal Specification & Architectural Synthesis

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

NUMEN is an integer-oriented operating-system substrate whose mechanisms include exact arithmetic, quaternary strand representations, residue lanes, admission checks, and hash-linked records[1]. The NUMEN Verified Core Library v3.0 provides standalone mathematical reference specifications for these core mechanisms and states their formal guarantees as propositions checked by Lean 4.19.0[1]. It serves as an archival artifact establishing an explicit boundary between proved mathematical specifications and unverified implementation or binary claims[1][2]. Methodological Foundation: Aligning Rigor in AI & Mathematics This work adopts and extends the methodological critique articulated in A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics by Artur Avila, Manjul Bhargava, Pierre Deligne, Peter Scholze, Terence Tao, Cédric Villani, et al.[3][4]. That paper highlights a critical threat facing modern scientific and mathematical progress: the push to use AI systems for mass production of unverified, black-box "true/false" outputs and superficial benchmark achievements at the expense of human understanding, conceptual clarity, rigorous proof development, and transparent attribution[3]. NUMEN directly addresses this alignment challenge by rejecting unverified black-box claims and benchmark hype in computational systems[1]. Rather than asserting empirical performance or unverified software guarantees, NUMEN anchors its architecture in machine-checked, kernel-audited formal proofs[1][2]. Every mathematical specification is explicitly isolated, checked against standard logical axioms, validated with reproducible integration scripts, and accompanied by transparent disclaimers regarding unverified hardware and runtime layers[2]. This approach ensures that computational mechanisms remain fully auditable, conceptually sound, and anchored in the human transmission chain of mathematical knowledge[2]. The Complete NUMEN DOI Web & Prior Art Synthesis This release formalizes and integrates the complete arc of prior art published across the NUMEN DOI web, anchored by the master parent release (isNewVersionOf 10.5281/zenodo.22210691)[11]: I. Technical Architecture of the Verified Core Library (v3.0) Verified Inventory & Declaration Counts The v3.0 package consists of 18 library modules plus the aggregate Numen.lean import[7]. The formal inventory includes: 230 Theorem Declarations: Comprising 41 original baseline declarations preserved verbatim alongside 189 cumulative additions across v2 and v3[7][13]. 73 Definition Declarations: Formalizing structural abbreviations, types, and operational functions[7]. 47 Executable #guard Checks: Embedded module-level guards evaluating concrete arithmetic and state invariants[7]. 303 Audited Declarations: Comprehensive coverage across all named theorems and definitions[7]. Axiom Footprint Audit: All declarations depend strictly on standard Lean 4 axioms (propext, Classical.choice, Quot.sound) with zero custom axioms, zero sorry placeholders, and zero native_decide dependencies[7]. Module-by-Module Technical Summary Numen.Admission: Pins the exact truth-table for state admission predicates (unavailable_denied, checkout contracts, lease validation)[20][21]. Numen.CRT: Proves Chinese Remainder Theorem representative uniqueness and residue completeness for moduli sets 3/5, 5/7, 7/11, 11/13, and 2/3/5 (crt_unique_3_5, crt_3_5_complete)[22]. Numen.Cayley: Proves projectively equivalent point transformations and scale invariance under 4-cycle and 8-cycle fold operations (four_cycle, fold_scale)[23][24]. Numen.Contraction: Proves termination of strictly descending positive natural orbits (orbit_reaches_zero) and unique fixed points up to zero distance in natural metric spaces (contracting_fixed_unique)[24]. Numen.Fibonacci: Formalizes the Fibonacci recurrence, consecutive term coprimality (fib_coprime), Cassini's determinant identity (cassini), and concrete rational brackets[24]. Numen.FixedPoint: Verifies commutative and associative Q32.32 fixed-point arithmetic, whole-scaled exactness (q32_whole_exact), and non-overflow range bounds (q32mul_exact_bound)[30]. Numen.GTAC: Formalizes quaternary base/strand complement involutions (strand_involution), length preservation, and self-sealing hash identities (self_seal)[24][33]. Numen.Gates: Models deterministic gate selection and inverse-CDF ticket sampling (sample_positive), proving positive weight selection without pseudo-randomness[24]. Numen.Integer: Proves exact bounded dot product evaluations (checked_exact), signed-64 range bounds (checked_bound), and triangle inequality budgets[31]. Numen.Ledger: Verifies hash-parametric chain consistency, head/tail link validation (stampChain_verified), and tampered digest rejection (changed_digest_denied)[24][38]. Numen.Mantle: Models modular residue extraction, preserving modular addition and multiplication (add_preserved, mul_preserved)[39][40]. Numen.Phi: Verifies coordinate distance triangle inequalities (phiDist_triangle), Golden Ratio rational brackets, and address range bounds (phiToByte_range)[37][41]. Numen.Quantized: Formalizes dyadic scaling composition, distribution, permutation invariance, and signed-8 byte bounds (signed8_bounds)[37][42]. v3 Extension Modules: Numen.Repunit (3-6-9 arithmetic identities)[43], Numen.DigitalRoot (mod 9 digital root properties)[44], Numen.Bipolar (first/last digit sums)[45], Numen.PrimeCircuit (prime gap identities)[46], and Numen.PhiAlgebra. Reproducibility & Audit Protocol Verification is fully reproducible on POSIX systems using pinned Lean v4.19.0[47][48]. verify.sh compiles all modules in strict dependency order into fresh .build/ objects, treats warnings as errors, and automatically generates .build/Audit.lean to validate axiom footprints[48]. scripts/test_verifier.py executes 7 integration checks including 21 additional regression test guards[7]. Explicit Scope & Verification Boundaries In accordance with rigorous mathematical archival practices, the Lean specifications carry explicit boundaries[1]: No Assembly/SIMD Refinement: Proofs operate on abstract Lean types and do not prove AVX2 assembly execution, floating-point hardware behaviour, or machine-word overflow checks[8]. No Cryptographic Security Derivation: Ledger results hold for abstract hash functions; collision resistance and network security are not derived[8]. No Universal CRT or Real Analysis: Moduli are restricted to specified small cases; real-valued golden ratio convergence is not claimed[8]. No Empirical or OS Capability Claims: This deposit records mathematical reference specifications and does not establish performance benchmarks, patent claims, or binary execution guarantees
