Abstract
Abstract. This article examines the role of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in developing the learning motivation and cognitive independence of students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Particular attention is given to conversational artificial intelligence systems, intelligent tutoring tools, automated feedback, and writing-support applications in the educational process. The analysis demonstrates that generative artificial intelligence can support students’ learning motivation by providing personalized learning experiences, immediate feedback, interactive language practice, and opportunities for self-regulated learning. Keywords: generative artificial intelligence, EFL students, learning motivation, cognitive independence, learner autonomy, AI-assisted language learning, personalized learning, self-regulated learning.
The method, ECCOLA, is presented, which aims at making the high-level AI ethics principles more practical, making it possible for developers to more easily implement them in practice.
