Using Organizational Development Tools to Improve Corporate Culture
Abstract
The rapid emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education by challenging traditional approaches to teaching, learning, assessment, and academic integrity. This scholarly reflection examines Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning by Bowen and Watson (2024) and explores its implications for contemporary higher education. Drawing on the authors’ arguments, current peer-reviewed literature, and personal experiences as an Information Technology instructor, this paper critically evaluates the opportunities and challenges associated with AI-assisted learning. The book argues that AI should not be resisted or banned but integrated thoughtfully through redesigned pedagogical practices that emphasize AI literacy, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making. Supporting research highlights the importance of guided AI use, transparent institutional policies, and the development of human–AI partnerships that enhance rather than replace human cognition. This reflection also examines key ethical concerns, including academic integrity, authorship, assessment fairness, privacy, and the potential erosion of critical thinking skills through overreliance on AI. Furthermore, the paper discusses pedagogical strategies for integrating AI into instruction, future applications of AI in higher education, and the evolving role of faculty as designers of meaningful learning experiences. Through personal experimentation with AI tools, the reflection illustrates both the capabilities and limitations of generative AI in educational contexts. Ultimately, the paper concludes that generative AI is most effective when positioned as a tool that supports human learning, judgment, and reflection rather than substitutes for them. As AI continues to reshape education and the workforce, institutions and educators must adopt intentional, ethical, and pedagogically sound approaches that prepare students for an increasingly AI-integrated world.
