Abstract
Low-light image enhancement remains challenging due to nonuniform illumination, color distortion, and noise-induced detail degradation. Existing methods often emphasize either illumination modeling or frequency-domain restoration, which limits their ability to jointly perform illumination compensation and detail restoration. We propose the Illumination Compensation and Frequency Interaction Former (ICFIFormer), a one-stage compensation–restoration framework for low-light image enhancement. The Illumination Compensation Subnetwork employs quaternion convolution to jointly model the color prior and RGB channels, and predicts a light-up map to compensate for nonuniform illumination in the input image. In the restoration stage, Frequency-Interactive Cross-Attention (FICA) constructs queries from the low-frequency subband and keys and values from the concatenated high-frequency subbands, thereby realizing spatially weighted asymmetric cross-band transposed channel attention. The Illumination-Compensation Guided Feed-Forward Network (ICFFN) incorporates the light-up map into feature updates. Experiments on five benchmark datasets demonstrate that ICFIFormer achieves competitive performance against recent low-light image enhancement methods.
The proposed AASFNet achieves competitive or leading performance across multiple key metrics under the evaluated experimental settings, yielding the best or second-best PSNR, SSIM, and NIQE values among the compared methods.

The Spatial-Frequency Fusion Network (SFF-Net), which decouples intensity and chroma in HVI space and then learns frequency-aware enhancement with cross-branch compensation, is proposed, which improves SICE, Sony-Total-Dark, and unpaired real image results with only 1.931 M parameters.

Low-light images usually suffer from spatially uneven illumination and exposure-dependent feature degradation, where weak structural and chromatic cues are easily masked by dominant intensity variations. Existing Transformer-based methods improve feature interaction, but often overlook the ambiguity caused by similar l...

The framework first performs illumination-aware self-supervised denoising to generate a cleaner reference image, which is then used to guide diffusion-based enhancement with a pre-trained backbone, and uses pairwise downsampling together with the proposed illumination prior to suppress noise in dark regions.
Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) remains challenging for lightweight models because illumination restoration and color fidelity are difficult to optimize simultaneously in the RGB color space. Although recent color-decoupled methods separate luminance and chrominance representations, they primarily optimize luminance...
