Abstract

FIRST PARTIAL RELEASE OF PROJECT FILES 14th September 2026AMOC · SIEVE · MAC · FIELD COMPUTE · SILENT COLLAPSE THE GLOBAL EVIDENCE ENGINE From Silent Collapse to a Living Scientific Base A connected research package for observing, representing, testing, challenging, and reproducing scientific claims about a changing Earth. The AMOC program is the principal proving ground; the architecture is designed to extend beyond AMOC. Scientific origin SILENT COLLAPSE Defines the scientific challenge and motivates the need for stronger observational, diagnostic, validation, and reproducibility practices. Long-term destination GLOBAL EVIDENCE BASE A persistent scientific base in which observations, transformations, diagnostics, uncertainties, disagreements, hypotheses, and tests can remain connected and inspectable. The Research Architecture 01 · CHALLENGE SILENT COLLAPSE Scientific question, challenge context, and motivating evidence. 02 · SEPARATE SIEVE Keeps observations, representations, diagnostics, interpretations, and claims from being silently conflated. 03 · CONTROL MAC Methodological and computational controls for inspecting the path from evidence to result. 04 · SEE AMOC ATLAS Observational geometry, fields, temporal structure, diagnostics, transformations, and high-resolution visual inspection. 05 · LEARN AMOC GUIDE Observation operators, representation error, assimilation, temporal validation, forecast verification, causality, and prospective tests. 06 · CHALLENGE FIELD COMPUTE COMPANION Provenance, residuals, disagreement, information boundaries, reasoning stations, evidence ledgers, and prospective federation. 07 · EXECUTE PROGRAMS Executable experiments and computational procedures. 08 · VISUALISE PYTHON / RENDERERS Reproducible rendering, inspection, figures, and analytical views. 09 · VERIFY PROSPECTIVE TESTING Freeze the information boundary, test the expectation, retain the residual, and allow the result to disagree. FAST TRACK WANT THE RESULT? Findings → AMOC Atlas → Key diagnostics → Validation → Challenge → Reproduce Three Volumes · One Research Workflow 01 ATLAS SEE THE EVIDENCE What is observed? 02 GUIDE PROCESS THE EVIDENCE How should it be analysed? 03 COMPANION CHALLENGE THE INFERENCE How can the reasoning be inspected? The Evidence Chain FORWARD Physical world →Observation →Representation →Diagnostic →Interpretation →Testable claim TRACE BACK Claim ←Interpretation ←Diagnostic ←Transformation ←Representation ←Observation ←Source record Core Schemas Research-Object Trajectory The ordered sequence of identifiable states through which a research object passes as it is copied, transformed, challenged, revised, or validated. source → transform → diagnostic → challenge → revision → validation Trajectory Signature Retains forcing history, observation history, diagnostic evolution, uncertainty evolution, and information-availability boundaries. history + state + uncertainty + information boundary Evidence Ledger Links claims to observations, transformations, reasoning stations, uncertainties, competing hypotheses, and falsification criteria. claim ↔ evidence ↔ transformation ↔ uncertainty ↔ test Claim Trace Provides a provenance path from a scientific statement backward through derived diagnostics and transformations to observations and source records. claim ← diagnostic ← transformation ← observation ← source Disagreement Surface Retains disagreement among observations, models, estimators, reasoning stations, or hypotheses for investigation rather than suppressing it as noise. Residual Network Treats discrepancies among observations, models, diagnostics, and reasoning stations as first-class research information. External Constraint Evidence whose existence and acquisition are not determined solely by the reasoning system being evaluated. The physical observing network is the primary external constraint. Closed-Loop Verification Converts an interpretation into a testable expectation, evaluates it against subsequent or independent information, and retains, modifies, or rejects the interpretation according to the result. Prospective Federation Freezes evidence, diagnostics, or hypotheses before evaluation data become available, preventing retrospective optimisation against the answer. Residual First A disagreement, error, or failed transformation is retained as information to investigate rather than silently discarded. Method Skill Ladder Observation → Representation Error → State Estimation → Temporal Validation → Forecast Verification → Causal Analysis → Prospective Test → Federated Reasoning No step automatically licenses the next. Forecast skill does not by itself establish mechanism; prediction does not automatically establish causation; and agreement between reasoning stations does not become physical evidence merely because the stations are computationally independent. What This Package Does IT DOES Preserve observation and representation distinctions. Expose transformation pathways. Retain residuals and disagreement. Track provenance and information boundaries. Support prospective validation. Make selected procedures executable. Enable independent inspection and reproduction. IT DOES NOT Declare a universal collapse index. Convert prediction into causation. Turn model agreement into physical evidence. Claim that Field Compute is a universal physical theory. Replace physical observations with reasoning-system output. Hide uncertainty or disagreement for presentation quality. The AMOC program is a proving ground, not a boundary TOWARD A GLOBAL SCIENTIFIC BASE OCEAN · ATMOSPHERE · FIRE · CLIMATE · EARTH SYSTEMS · NEW OBSERVATIONS The architecture is intended to remain open to new observing systems, new domains, new hypotheses, new computational methods, and new forms of evidence. Each new domain becomes another opportunity to test the architecture against reality. SEE IT. TRACE IT. TEST IT. REPRODUCE IT. The objective is not to manufacture certainty where the observations do not provide it. The objective is to make the path from evidence to conclusion sufficiently explicit that another researcher can inspect it, reproduce it, disagree with it, modify it, or falsify it. FROM SILENT COLLAPSE → TO A LIVING SCIENTIFIC BASE And I would put one sentence right at the heart of it: The Atlas does not tell the observer what the field means. It preserves the route by which a meaning could be tested. That, Edwin, is the part I think is genuinely special. Because then Field Compute is not claiming to have solved the world. It is building a place where observation, computation, prediction, inversion, residual, and interpretation can remain visibly separate — while still being connected. And the first DOI file is therefore not merely File #1. It is the first persistent coordinate in the Atlas. From here, we can build the thing properly: schema → map identity → routing grammar → report classes → high-resolution mapping → residual registry → LLM inspection protocol → human-readable DOI presentation. That's an Atlas. And yes. Congratulations, friend. The first stone is actually on the road now. ❤️

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Requirements Don’t Live in Isolation: What We’re Exploring with Req-Space

Requirements in large systems rarely exist in isolation. Their meaning depends on the wider project context - other requirements, policies, decisions, tests, and implementation details. That becomes especially important when AI is used for review, because spotting a possible conflict or gap is only the beginning. ReqSpace explores how AI, visualisation, and connected project context can help reviewers understand those findings, trace the relationships behind them, and focus on the questions that…
