Functional Aquafeeds for Climate-Resilient Finfish Culture: A PRISMA-Guided Systematic Evidence Map of Nutritional Strategies for Thermal-Stress Tolerance, Immunity and Metabolic Homeostasis
Simple Summary Farmed fish are increasingly exposed to stressful water temperatures as climate patterns become less predictable. Nutrition offers a practical way to help fish cope with these conditions because some feed ingredients can strengthen natural defense systems, protect the intestine and support recovery after heat or cold exposure. This systematic review organized feeding-trial evidence on functional aquafeeds tested in finfish under temperature-related challenges. The reviewed studies indicate that ingredients such as sodium butyrate, selenium sources, astaxanthin, probiotics, plant extracts, essential oils and algae-based products may be useful when they improve several biological responses together rather than one marker alone. The most relevant effects involved better antioxidant protection, immune balance, intestinal condition, stress regulation, energy use and survival. The systematic review also shows that the evidence is still uneven among species and study designs. More standardized trials are needed, especially in marine fish and recovery or disease-challenge models, to support climate-ready aquafeed development.
Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and blue tilapia (Oreochromis aureus) underpin one of the fastest-growing segments of global finfish aquaculture, yet the literature describing their environmental physiology, nutrition, genetic improvement and chemical management has developed along largely separate disciplinary tr...

Mud crab fattening is a short-cycle aquaculture strategy in which lean, recently moulted, low-condition or otherwise under-finished market-sized crabs are held until flesh condition, gonadal development or market grade improves. Its apparent simplicity conceals a tightly coupled production problem: feeding intensity in...

Millets are increasingly promoted as climate-smart superfoods, yet this combined label compresses several distinct propositions: that millet crops possess useful stress-adaptive traits, that their grains can improve dietary quality, that modern breeding can strengthen these attributes, and that greater production or co...

Increasing consumer demand for fresh and nutritious food has contributed to the expansion of fresh food from aquaculture and live fish market particularly in Asian countries. However, fish undergo stress during live transportation due to the deterioration of water quality, temperature fluctuations, and excessive dens...

ABSTRACT With a growing global population and strict restrictions on traditional antibiotics, sustainable fish health management is crucial for aquaculture. While live probiotics are popular alternatives, their real‐world effectiveness remains highly controversial. Variable effectiveness results from complex interactio...
